For example
Nights away in a year: 25
loss of value on a caravan (usually 15% a year, 20 in the first): £3000
insurance: £500
Storage: £1000 (going off the cheap example in the post)
site fees: £25 per night (forgetting gas, electric, people) 25x25 = £625
so total cost is: £4630
divided by 25 = £185.20 per night.
Imagine what sort of a holiday you could have spending £185.20 a night? and non of them make you empty a barrel of your own shit and piss each morning, or make you clean your own room, or make you join a club of utter and complete wankers, no one will hate you for been on the road holding up miles of traffic, its better on the environment, its better for everyone. For the love of god don't do it to your self and the rest of the world.
ps campers are soo cool
really?
just pay for a late checkout time.

/\ Is the correct answer.
I've never understood why anyone would want a caravan like, shit loads of hassle when you are meant to be enjoying yourself. This time next week I'll have arrived on holiday on a nice warm island after spending a few hours getting pissed at Newcastle airport. Alternatively I could spend four hours packing up a shoe box to annoy umpteen thousand drivers while I hump it half way across the country to sit in the pissing rain and have bacon sarnies every morning and say 'hello' to the same old grumpy fuckwits you get on campsites.
Oh but it's all about the outdoors.

nah example quoted was for a seasonal pitch--ie he paid a grand to eave it on all season for tha so no nightly fee to pay.
Cheaper than I pay over the Lakes where I also leave it for winter storage
site fees: £25 per night (forgetting gas, electric, people) 25x25 = £625
so total cost is: £4630
divided by 25 = £185.20 per night.

nah the example you quoted was a grand for a seasonal pitch which is the fee for the season with no nightly fee. Cheaper than I pay over the Lakes where I also leave it for winter storage

Re: Caravans
Miss my caravan I had in the UK so much. Had a Swift Challenger and it was the dogs. Now in Oz and simply don't have time to use a van much. Will do when I get back to Melbourne though, some great sites over here

so do hotels?
Been serious now and trying to understand someone else's point of view, so not wanting to rip into anyone who is pro-caravan, but ..... I get camping, walking into the hills pitching a tent, the feeling of isolation and freedom. I even get families going camping on a site as its cheap as chips and great for young kids.
I just don't get whole caravaning scene, but it must have something to it as its a multi-million pound industry and the clubs seem to still have enough people wanting to join and the pitches on sites are busy, SO please tell me why?

They are basically the same car, but the Navara is classed as a light Goods Vehicle and is therefore cheaper to tax by about half
