The nearby thread that mentions about shutter actuations reminded me that last year the shutter of my d300 disintegrated before the 100,000 operations Nikon had led me to expect.
Of course Nikon said sod off to fix under warranty but they would replace the shutter, sensor and other bits for £1,200! But after a series of acerbic emails, telephone calls and info from the site below, 3 months later they had fixed it for free.
The shutter count numbers that all the makers bandy about are not worth their weight in used toilet paper, my d300 barely made 40k
