Previous to Kolpacks, England were cack
I'd hardly call 2 players "an abundance" of quality non Englishmen. Since there are 8 players in the current test 11 who can quite legitimately call themselves English, KP whose claim to Englishness isn't completely without reason and only Trott and Morgan who have worked the system to allow them to play for England, which is slightly harsh on Morgan as he doesn't have a test team in Ireland. It's not exactly a team full of foreigners.

And the reason they've climbed to the top of the rankings is because the English domestic game focuses mainly on the longer form of the game. Long may that continue.

its the overall increase in standards as a result of more fierce compeition for spots the saffers have provided. Least we not forget Keiswetter, Dernbach and meaker are now also on the scene

KP and Trott along with Cook are the first names on the teamsheet

Surely that's a good thing then having a lot of Saffers playing domestic cricket over here increasing standards? And as things stand, Kieswetter and Dernbach are only playing in the One Day side, and I don't see that changing with the way Prior is playing and the strength of our current bowling attack.

There's no doubt you're right about the impact KP and Trott have in the team, but reaching the top of the pile is as much down to the impact of the Englishmen in the team as it is down to the Saffers.

Wonder what the uproar would be if India started letting saffers in their national side.

Would we be ranked one without all the saffers in english domestic cricket -No IMO

Every time England play a one-day series in India, they end up trying to plug one hole only to expose another. The aim from now until the end of the tour must be to avoid humiliation.
As for winning a game, well, that would be a bonus.
