The fact it was exciting at the time says a lot.

Funnily enough most fans were more excited about signing Stead and Gray than the 'wrong Watford striker', the 'old bloke from Brighton' and 'some kid from York'.

Maybe signing some Korean bloke and a kid from Ipswich is even better than we thought!

I can't recall anyone on here being excited about Gray, we'd not wanted him the season previous when he was linked for 275k.

I remember being absolutely gutted. I was happy enough with Davis and I was actually pleased that we had managed to "attract" Stead but I knew we would get one more striker and, as you do, was hoping it'd be someone fairly mint. When I heard it was fucking Andy Gray, who seemed to me (rightly as it turned out) to be nothing more than a useless lump, I immediately thought "we're fucked". It's possibly the most depressed I've ever been over a signing just because I knew that was all we were getting. Thank fuck we've moved on from those days!
