Default That Pardew press conference...zero confidence

just watched it and it sounded exactly like the one Howard Wilkinson did for us years ago...."watched lots of football"...."havent been out of football completely".....didnt sound confident one iota....

absolutely cannot believe he has been installed.....he looks a bit like Cotterill as well....

Just to relive that time, you can see some of Wilkinson's press conference here still, and check out how deluded some of us were here. Hindsight is a fine thing.

Turns out some of those comments were spot on, such as
    Quote:

A very similar arose at Aberdeen a few years ago. They appointed Alex Miller as a "safe pair of hands" and for his "great experience". It turned out to be a disaster. I wish Sunderland all the best, but I feel they have made a big mistake.
    George Henderson, Scotland
    And

He may not be the most charismatic man in the world but think yourselves lucky you didn't get Mick "man-management" McCarthy. I'm sure he'd attract top names after one of the most respected players in Europe lambasted him at the World Cup.

This made me chuckle, from Barney Ronay in the Guardian

"I don't think I'm going to win any PR battles here," Pardew ventured, before heading into his first tentative shot at winning the PR battle. "Derek [Llambias] isn't a friend of mine," Newcastle's new manager announced firmly. In the process he became perhaps the first football manager to kick things off with a show of firm and unyielding disunity with the board. Singing from the same hymn sheet? They're barely in adjacent pews.

Sunderland now have a man who, with Steve Cotterill, will bring serious training techniques to the pitch, won't play left-footers on the right and right-footers on the left.
    Haha.

He looked and sounded like Nick Leeson after he'd been rumbled
