    Default Seat Belt Law

    Any MOT testers here?

I own a 1975 MGB that (I believe) has had retractable seat belts retro-fitted. Problem is that they dont "tension" when the belt is rapidly pulled, as in an accident.

Question is, given that they weren't fitted as standard, will this fail the MOT? I don't think the car had any belts when built.

If I remove them will this take any problem away?

That car will have had the old , non tensionable lap and diagonal belts fitted from new IIRC , only 1963 and earlier cars are exempt from having seatbelts fitted.

Ps try Moss Europe or the MG OC for replacements, should be around the £50 mark for a pair.

in 1975 it was probably fitted with the old 3 point lap an chest restraint as standard.

if its been modified to use the inertia type and they dont work then you will fail through ineffective seatbelts, i.e. they don't do what they should do.
