Hit a brick wall.Any genealogists on here?

The mrs is trying (again!!) to trace her dad.Tried all the usual things relatives she knows that are still alive websites etc.got as far as finding her mam and dads marriage certificate ( more by luck than judgement)but have hit a brick wall.How would we go about finding the divorce certificates if such things exist,and trying to trace from there?

funnily enough we were told somewhat vaugely that he drank in a red lion somewhere in county durham!!!! how many red lions are there round there?
