I have a EOS400D as a back up camera. When I bought it, it was my first DSLR and the only problem was it was too small to hold comfortably. (And I don't have big hands). I ended up putting a battery grip on it and never looked back.
My main digital camera now is a 50D which is much chunckier and far more comfortable to hold. I also have an EOS 3 35mm camera that's the same size as the 50D.
That's the reason I recommended holding them in the shop and buying the one that feels right.
