that is a shame. hope he is still working with the beeb, was doing domestic commentary last season and the odd bit with tms and is dead canny

He's alright like, but I prefer to hear from blokes who played a lot more international cricket than him

Not a fan of Agger's then?

Being a good insightful commentator is more important to me like.

I don't think it would be so bad having Vaughan, Swann or others like them on but just don't have them in the studio together with their shite bantz.

Ian Ward and Rob Key are very good. As is Taylor. Then on TMS you got Aggers/Marks, we've had Hughes in the past, ed smith etc.

Nas and Athers played over 300 international games between them and wanted Duckett to open and billings in the side.

Botham talks a lot of crap at times as do the Indian commentary team. That's before we get onto boycott, warne, pietersen etc

I quite like him, he seems insightful .. the one that gets me is Trott when he's doing the analysis from back in the UK. It's those hand gestures, I cannot stop watching those frigging hands and it winds me up!

think a mix is best. a fair portion of those who've played bags of high level cricket end up either dull or up their own arse or both.

I'm not doubting that, I like Athers and Nasser mind, but I'd be hesitent to but Taylor in the Vic Marks category, love that man

Not trying to slag him off, I have sympathy for the lad, but I just feel there has been a mass exaggeration of his ability and how far as a player he would have gone.

Think my point got lost in translation, some of my favourites didn't play lots of international cricket, see my post above, all I meant really.

i think it is because he is so new to it and so young.

the newer breed of commentators are by and large utter shite.

only recent players that i think are canny to listen to are taylor and mcgrath. i'm sure there are others that i've not heard or have forgotten mind.

I like that he's very close to the side yet prepared to be critical. Unlike Strauss. That's what people like about him as a pundit.

His ODI career was decent. Yes his test career is nothing to shout about, but I rated him and thought this summer would have been a success and he'd have been important for this tour. Whether he went -/+ 40 batsman who knows.

Mass exaggeration is because most rated him. I know you were never a fan of his (e.g you wanted Ballance in the ODI side ahead of him).

Don't agree thought Strauss was good

Taylor would never have been a success against pace bowling like, wasn't up to it.

Ballance has 4 test 100s, Taylor has none, just saying.

Well most myself included thought strauss was dull as fuck and offered nothing.

I said ODI. Taylor would have 4 centuries where Ishant Sharma was the biggest threat like ;)

Not interested if most agree like, I watch Sky in the comfort of my own house, I know what I like.

Sorry if you didn't mean that mate. It just seemed to me that because you didn't rate him as a player you thought he wasn't a good pundit. I think he would of been one. He already was a good one day player.

Straus was a poor pundit in my opinion. But I think he would of got a lot better if he had continued in that role instead of changing to work for the ECB.
