Who gives a shit how old he is?
well its hardly looking to the future is it there are other younger bowlers that took more wickets

You're asking the wrong people. There was absolute consensus on this forum this should happen. Duckett is looking like a poor man's Hales at test level so far.
true they generally give players 2 series to get a few scores or they will be out I don't get how they haven't given borthwick a go yet.

in trouble here

I'm not saying he should play but I couldn't give a shit if they are 17 or 47

Shouldn't be playing but good ball to be fair

Big fab of a lot of stuff England have done in the last 2 years but the selection policy for the test team has been very poor

Yeah good balls happen and you will get out cheaply from time to time but his selection is ridiculous.

I still think Borthwick deserves a chance

They probably should have played hameed like

Bayliss seems too obsessed with scoring quickly

He said last winter he wants "two of the top three playing aggressively". This is an Australian thing and clearly bollocks in tough conditions like a sub-continent bunsen or a grasstop in late Spring. England have always done better with a third opener/grinder at 3. Root is completely wasted at three and is often getting out being too positive too early.

That said, this pitch will be unplayable by day four so scoring runs early on is key. I think Bangas may have won this with their second wicket partnership.

Not like you're reading this.

Haven't seen any of today's play. Is the pitch that bad compared to the first one, which also looked like a three day pitch after day one?

Great turnaround and the best moeen has bowled in 2 years.

But the problems for India are stark. We need to bring in a frontline spinner and our batting is toothless against spin. Jimmy has to get fit otherwise we're just gonna rely on Stokes too much.

Cook/Root have to be on song for us on top of the great middle order to succeed in India with our weaker bowling attack.

I'd move everyone down for India and bring in Hameed or take out Ballance and bring in Buttler for a lower order slog.

Nah it's better pitch.

We were toothless till Iqbal and Haque gave away soft wickets. Then stokes and Moeen finally found a great partnership which put the pressure on finally started drying up the runs and causing problems. Some slightly soft wickets in there but deserved from good bowling.

Ballance got a goodun. Cook and Duckett just crap dismissals

Canny post agree with all of it

Always positives from all tours and stokes bowling here has been brilliant. Don't care who we are facing they would have struggled

Personally I think rashid has blown it. I'd maybe play batty, Ali and ball, stokes, woakes n broad

I'd have played leach in every game personally, just can't get my head round not taking him, what are the reasons?

I think Buttler is worth a go at some point. But hameed should play, no idea why not in this game just for rotation

People will Moan about losing in India but it's no big deal. India get hammered in England and people on here dismiss it as too easy

Who would you play next test mate?

Well I'd hope we'd call up another spinner. But probably this, rashid only stays in as something different/batsman. 5/7 totally interchangeable as always.

Cook
Hameed
Duckett
Root
Moeen
Stokes
Bairstow
Woakes
Rashid
Broad
Batty

Squad already confirmed

Totally agree with root at 4

No idea why he was moved

I can't pick rashid I just don't think he's very good. Seen him live loads too. Mostly Tail Enders he gets out

I know the squad is confirmed but if we had any f***ing sense we'd bring in a spinner. What we've got isn't gonna scare the Indians.

Rashid gets in purely as he's probably better than Ansari and picking 4 seamers just seems a waste of time especially if Finns gonna bowl like that.

If wood/Anderson had been fit then it wouldn't even be a conversation, the team would have picked itself 5 down.

Fair point about wood n jimmy

Absolutely massive losses, that will go unmentioned on here by the way when people criticize England

I like what I saw from ball in ODI

Finn is all over shop

Thing with Rashid is 16/19 of the players in India's squad during the New Zealand test series were RHB.

If he gets it right he could do something. Will Ball/Finn provide something different to the other 3 seamers.

Use Rashid more sparingly rather than expecting him to hold up an end and that's the way he progresses in test cricket.

He's still finding his feet at this level tbf. Leg spin is harder than anything else in cricket.

I love leg spin and just want him to do well. So maybe I'll give him more chance than others.
