You chaps really should pay attention to me!
How many times have I said you'll end up back whee you belong , in the Minor Counties? Time after time.
You can't run a cricket club properly, you lose money hand over fist, you lose your best players and you owe your limited success to recruiting foreign players, which you cannot now afford to do.
You really are a joke!!

Stick to selling pegs cock gobbler.

I think the Hampshire chariman is clutching at straws to be honest. He claims they were at a disadvantage becuase durham were being helped by the ECB. What would he prefer that Durham went bust and forfeited the fixture altogether.

I dont remember once they got the financial assitance reading David Harker and the board going on a week long bender and coming back off their faces. They were paying the wages of the players and staff who keep the place going.

One thing I dont understand is why a prominent local business has not come along to back the club, pay off the debts completely and start 2017 with a big fat £0 in the profit/loss.

Because even makems aren't that stupid, marrow.
No, mate, its going down for you Minor Counties lot, following ex Sunderland duffer Fat Sam into oblivion.
Who is the latest Durham rat to leave the sinking ship?

Do we have any who can take £7m on the chin for nothing in return. If I was going to do that I'd want a chunk of the club in return if only to ensure the dosh is spent wisely.

What should happen is the club should be sponsored by Sunderland, Newcastle, and Middlesbrough football clubs who can afford several hundred thousands easily - and in returntheir season tickets could include a season ticket for the Riv. Win-win.

Well as an example. The bloke who did Kynron in Bishop Aukland donated £10m to produce it. The bloke who set up Daft as a Brush charity donated his fortune. There are people out there who have money. I agree they need something in return but that would be up to an individual to negogiate.

Shame they didnt do with the Sky money as they did in football and each club got a huge windfall instead of ECB scurrying it away like squirrels in offshore accounts

Since it is Durham they arent Mackems. Bit like saying all Yorkshire folk are from Sheffield.

I think there are more worthy debt ridden counties in line for oblivion who just buy their way to the title...........oh wait thats right you didnt win it!

must've really hurt losing the t20 semi final to such a joke of a club like. still at least you managed to sneak above us by a few points in the table.

isn't your debt the same as ours too?

Commiserations on losing the championship, old boy.
Latest accounts
Durham profit £900k, Yorkshire profit £350k
Durham debt £7m, Yorkshire debt. £20m
Won the CC, RL Cup in recent years without overseas players, T20 finalists 2016- sorry to remind you.
FACTS
And you call us a joke.

:eek::eek:

if this is legit then i'd think a debt of 6-7m is perfectly serviceable but i'm not convinced.

i think it was mentioned that there was a loss of £700k (ish) after deductions

the tim wellock piecce suggested an operating profit of 650k or thereabouts and interest repayments were 300k. all seems pretty confusing because based on that you'd not think it sounded too bad

no but what there must be other deductions to take account of after operating profit. Maybe there was a capital repayment?

Only up to Sept 2015, so not including the test match disaster

So what do the other smaller clubs and non-traditional test match venues do differently to Durham (apart from widespread hatred for Harker) to allow them to keep their head above the water and not be in the position that Durham are in now?

Nothing.

We have been plunged into debt because it was a requirement of becoming a FC county that we got thrle ground up to international standards. We were given little/no assistance to do this. We have grown far too quickly, and it hasn't been sustainable.

The bidding process for International cricket is a joke.

What other clubs do however, is price their tickets reasonably. We don't and are losing a great deal of potential fans.

we should never have been had to grow so quickly, or if so it should have been eavily subsidised by the ecb.

or maybe if they just didn't charge so much to hold a test match it might actually have been worth it

And the irony is that far from the ECB supporting Durham, Durham have been supporting the ECB.

I agree. If you look at Durhams team how many players were imported and by that i mean did not play for the academy or were plucked from local cricket.

I think any punishment should be liable to a challenge if they can prove that the problems encountered are as a result of
  • Following ECB guidance on the development of an International Standard ground,
  • Due to having an international ground having to bid for internationals without actually knowing which internationals would be selected.
  • The financial hardship of players dropping off central contracts and then not actually playing for Durham despite being paid c.£300k
  • Constant reduction of the wage bill which is bordering on triggering the minimum salary figure
  • Still releasing players for international duty for all 3 formats over the course of the summer.
  • Still being more successful than the "rich" counties with consitent high finishes, tournament success.
All other counties complaining complaining of sour grapes and unfair advantages are deluded and self-entitled. If this situation was involving Lancashire, Yorkshire, Surrey or Middelsex this issue would not be brought up. The established elite dont like the new kid on the block doing well.
