The Ref

What does being 14 stone or him going down have to do with anything at all?

('Nothing' is the answer, if you're struggling.)

Exactly. If a player goes down when they could have stayed up that doesn't mean there wasn't contact on him and it wasn't a foul. It forces the ref to make a decision on whether he was impeded or not, that's all.

Ah right, so the linesman was on our side and gave us a goal then.

Yip - ill take that most weeks a ref not giving is a free kick on the half way line and a lino giving us a 2-0 lead! what's everyone twisting on about.

I'm not suggesting either were on anyone's side I'm pointing out that this thread is discussing the ref and how poor he was, I don't know what that has to do with the linesman?

Edit: I should point out I don't think it's anything to do with a conspiracy against us or the ref loving Palace, I just think he's a terrible referee and had an awful game yesterday.

It's such a bizarre argument.

"Here, he could've easily stayed on his feet, the big lump!"

Right, erm, and what point are you making exactly?

It's the same people time and time again saying that the refs give us nothing.

They're not just saying they're shit, and if they did I often wouldn't disagree, but it's the mentality that they never give us anything. It's a load of nonsense. The only goal the officials definitely got wrong was one we scored!

I can't help but admire you're sheer determination to continue an argument however wrong you are or how daft it makes you look. I've always admired that about you. ;)

I would say nice try, but it wasn't. It was hopeless. What on earth am I wrong about in the quote you've posted?

And it's 'your'.

I read lots of posts from clowns like yourself

Good contribution.

In my opinion the ref had a poor game yesterday and further than that he's just a poor referee, to continue to defend him does no justice to some of the better referees in the league, who it seems are in much shorter supply over the last few years.

I never said he wasn't poor yesterday. It's the same people going on about how no refs ever give us everything week on week that I respond to.

When you have such logic as 'he's 14 stone he didn't need to go down', it's probably futile continuing.

The players might not be able to look sideways at the ref now and managers might have to put up and shut up or expect a hefty fine but thankfully there's nothing to stop supporters having an opinion yet.

The time I'm talking about was around the halfway line and Defoe won the ball but was pushed from behind and ended up on his knees over the ball. It happened right in front of me and the ref had a clear view of it.

I think ref's have something against giving fouls for physical contact on smaller players, that's the main reason Giaccherini struggled in the PL.
What is far more alarming is the refs latest clampdown on the no feely- touchy stuff in the box. It's not a coincidence that us and Stoke are propping up the rest. The big lads are fed up with having their perms undone as hairdressers' bills are soaring.

I think the logic that a big strapping lad like Conner would not go down so easily from such tiny contact is perfectly logical and if the ref didn't believe there was enough contact to genuinely bring him down then he should not have given the free kick. Seems perfectly logical to me.

Well learn the rules mate, because how much you weigh, and whether the contact was sufficient enough to make said 14 stone man go down to the ground, has absolutely nothing to do with whether it was a foul.

It's utterly irrelevant.

So players can't be done for diving then?

The very fact good refs seem in short supply, just proves the point it's too difficult nowadays to be perceived as one.

Hway have many good refs can people name in the last 10 years one, two, none.

The bottom line is without help they will always be perceived as shit, because people forget the good decisions and only remember the bad ones
