Alternatively, Borthwick gets an England contract - probably the one before Central ita name escapes me - and his wage is heavily subsidised and he doesn't go, and Stoneman stays because he has two (?) young children who he won't want to uproot.

Always two sides to the coin, remember.

Incremental contract which kicks in after a certain number of tests or ODI but won't save Durham any salary. Money bags Surrey will probably pay the school/nursery fees.Rocky should think where he'd now be in life if it wasn't for Durham.

There is compensation involved.

On Harker and the gate receipt issue: The prices are far too high. They're unrealistic. T20 tickets at Durham should be £10 for adults and a quid for kids. No more. Get people in the ground. Nee point selling 1,000 tickets at £20 if you can get 2,000 in at £10 - the added revenue from beer/burgers/merchandise will more than make up for the ticket money.

i'm not sure how true this is, does much of this money really go to the club? they farm out the provision of this to others. i guess they could perhaps charge more to the burger vans etc if their takings improve

Not sure it's as cut and dried as previous poster said, but in theory it works. Same as us on a match day better off giving 5000 tickets away and hope they all spend 2 quid than not having the chance of 2quid at all. About 12 of us used to go to the t20s a couple of year ago but we fucked it off cos club doesn't take it serious. We now maybe take 2 games a season in the 1 dayers but don't see the full day out. The clubs not accommodating the fans well at all n are the worst club In history of anything for releasing the fans information also the merchandising is a nightmare. Few simple steps could help them turn the corner

I have been saying for years the first thing the club should do is make entry free to championship cricket. The life membership was finished about 6 or 7 yrs ago so there is only a few coffin dodgers left who still have their life membership who would complain but most have had more than their monies worth over the years. The club would make more money with people calling to watch the odd session and having a pint than they do now. They could then do various deals and packages for the one day cricket. Iam no longer a member payed £15 quid to get in today at just after 11am they had not sold three dozen tickets.

because most people who go will be members, no idea how many member there are but must be a 6 figure income from that every year surely it wouldn't be feasible to bin that off.

I bet its nearer 50k than 100k, chicken feed. The most important thing is the £2,000,000 they get off the ECB. They could still charge to get into one day cricket.

This could happen.

Problem is that its Surrey. They are almost playing a different game too everyone, which makes their lack of success pretty funny. London's team, and the biggest and wealthiest in the country. So they could offer more than could be hard to turn down.

Borthwick thing works both ways, if they think he will get a central contract, could tempt more counties to take a risk.

pure guesswork but you only need a tick over 500 members to bring in 100k. hardly chicken feed, 10-15% of the wage bill?
I doubt Durham even have 500 members who pay the full amount. Last season they where under 2,000 and that including life members and OAPs who make up a massive percentage of the spectators at championship matches. Looking around today and it is frightening how old some of the regulars are and quite simply they are not being replaced by a younger genaration of spectators.
Make it free and encourage people to pop in it is dying on its feet the way it is.

don't get me wrong like, i would totally approve of it being free!

it would make some difference but i'm not sure it would make a massive difference like, i think time is a huge factor, a younger generation are being pulled in by the one day stuff then as they get older their interest may well pass over to teh longer format and when they retire they'll be able to attend more often.

the OAP memberships aren't that much cheaper than the full amount, think about 600 concessions would make 100k

Non,je suis maintenant une canard boiteaux.
Are you still with the first company that employed you?
Hey it's hellish difficult to type French with auto correct. I was with the same employer for 36 years and I was loyal because they treated me well. It's extremely unlikely that Mark would have enjoyed the benefits of a 1st class cricket career outside of Durham and he' s been offered a lucrative renewal. Surely that does deserve some loyalty?

Fair play to you

If someone had doubled your salary would you have stayed?
