alright, here it goes,

so ive started my half marathon training, and after a few weeks the dreaded achilles is playing up big time

i know its very common but a few questions for all you runners

can i do anything about it?
will it always be this way?
is it a several week lay off?
can i change anything about my gait to reduce this?

ive had a quick look on the internet, but its mainly a case of you may as well give up now because your donald ducked

any personal experiences would also be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance, a pissed off danielsan

http://runnersconnect.net/running-i...insertional-achilles-tendinopathy-in-runners/ I twanged my right achilles last year & doing the exercises in that link for 6 weeks combined with aquajogging for the 1st few weeks until I could run again got me sorted

I'm in GNR for the next three years too. It seemed like a good idea at the time but I didn't expect my crohns to flare and another medical problem. Going back to see crohns consultant on the 24th and probably going on steriods and having minor surgery for the other thing on the 22nd, so hopefully that will fix things. Also on iron tablets now as I'm anaemic which doesn't help things.

Been going swimming once a week and doing 32 lengths while the bairn is in her lesson and going to the gym and doing gentle cardio.

Just did the Barcelona half marathon, full of cold and a streaming nose, managed a respectable 1:39:03, even though I did a half marathon training session the other week in 1:32:26, my legs are dead but I'm glad I did it.

Got back into running just after xmas after years of being lazy......my wife and I both got fitbit for xmas and I have to say it has got us focused.

I started with trying 7miles in 7 weeks plan but found my fitness wasnt as bad as I thought so scratched that.

Currently doing 2 ×10k and 3×5k a week which includes a parkrun.

The parkrun i did on saturday was 29mins beating my previous time of 32.17 so i can see the improvement.

Doing the 10k in 1hr 10, would like to get that under 1hr as i would like to enter some runs......

I also feel great......

3 weeks on and my parkrun is down to 28mins, and doing 3 x7km midweek now.

Just run 14k this afternoon and my first 10k was just under 1hr......

I wore my Sunderland shirt whilst running today.
When I was running up Paralell towards Plaza España all I could hear was "Haway the Lads, red and white Army" brilliant, and a few kids shouted Sunderland when I ran past them in the crowd, felt great we are recognised around the world, even better after we beat Man U yesterday.

Marathon training going pretty well and upto about 70-80km a week for the past 5-6 weeks. Decided I should test myself yesterday with a fast 10 mile threshold run and clocked 56:40s. Four minutes quicker than I'd done before. Rest day today!

I twanged mine about a week ago. I've taken it steady this week and it seems OK. I have a 10k in March and it's messed up my training. I've reduced my expectations and will run the race as a benchmark.

This might be interesting re: hammy recovery.

Trunk stabilisation exercises apparently work better than strengthening ones so I've been doing hods of front and side planks.

Have a week or two off? I think I've been over-training. I used to only train on alternate days but did 3 days in a row - Long run, sprints and hills and the hamstring popped.

today is 14 days off, apart from 3 mile on grass to see if calf was easier on that, just stretching loads and doing strengthening exercises at the moment but its just depressing 2016 has been 1 thing after another upto now.

Brutal 15.7 mile run this morning which seen is get to Hartlepool before the long trip up the Hart cycle path getting off at shotton before making my way back down to Horden. Proper bones of my arse stuff for last couple of mile. Only dawned on me when I got home its my second longest run ever!
