Im sure all of you will be delighted to hear that South Notthumberland will once again be hosting a Durham RLODC match against Warwickshire.

Cue more age old debates about old fashioned county borders to send everyone to sleep...

Didn't see the previous post - feel free to post any boring anti-Northumberland posts to which ever you prefer.

Just doing what a whole host of counties do .....spreading our wonderful sport to counties that don't enjoy first class cricket.

I applaud it......Well done Durham:cool:

I think it's a terrific move, if anything I'm slightly dissapointed in Durham for not taking a game somewhere last year.

I'm all for taking games to grounds around the north east, it's a great way of involving people in the game and get people supporting Durham. For them to be doing it again at South North it must have been a big success a couple of years ago, I'm delighted they're going back. I hope they go to other grounds and give other places a chance to host too mind. I know it's only across the road but Ropery Lane at CLS CC is one of the best tracks in the north east recently, could they host one?

I used to love the Racecourse ground. Saw a young Tendulkar make runs there for Yorkshire when I was a kid and it remains one of my fondest memories watching cricket.

Remember watching Simon Brown bowl the aussies out in 1993. 7-70 if Im not mistaken. Merv on the outfield at lunch bowling to kids and Bothams last game

Beautiful ground. One that, for me, should be first on the list if DCCC consider taking fixtures to outgrounds.

The debate was done to death last time round, I'm not a fan of playing outside the county - my main gripe though is that there are plenty of grounds in the county that would absolutely love to have a game. For me, the likes of Durham, Stockton, Darlington, Hartlepool - should all get first refusal. Only then should grounds in other counties be considered.

South of the region deserves the next one surely.

It sounds like a good idea.... especially if Durham can create their own version of the Scarborough festival. Link it up with some other activity happening within the City and make a big thing out of it, perhaps get a few more people coming through the doors.

Bang on. Nowt against Newcastle getting matches, to take the brand to the unwashed, but why haven't the other grounds had a look in for years?

It can't be anything like Scarborough. South North is a pokey little ground with poor access and a small capacity. Scarborough on the other hand is a beautiful ground with a large capacity and has a rich history of hosting county and international teams.

I was actually talking about the Racecourse Ground at that point..... but apart from that and which particular ground we talking about the real point is....... Scarborough is a real money spinner for Yorks with lots of people coming through the gate. If Durham could develop a 'festival' somewhere maybe the financial situation wouldn't be quite so bad, the City of Durham being a tourist centre strikes me as a place where it could work, possibly.

Apologies .

I couldn't think of a better ground in the county in fairness than the Racecourse to host said festival. So well said Bri.

Penzance? Well, they aren't in County Durham, but it didn't stop South North ;).

Would imagine the square and outfield are well below 1st class standard but I'd think there would be huge scope for making it a massive financial success if it ever happened. Big ground, excellent views on raised banks, very large existing clubhouse facilities and room for a few marquees. Id hope changing facilities have improved since I last played there - thats nr 20 yr ago....fuck I feel old

Aye but they all used to be in Northumbria. Imaginary lines that have changed.
