I agree with Sam, from The Sunderland Echo

Leicester aren't any great shakes at keeping it, either, but when they do get the f*cker....

Spot on.......I've seen games where their ball retention is poor but a solid defence and a willingness to work hard mean it impacts them less than us.

I agree to a point with Sam, but and its a big but, his tactics at times don't help also why play vito when pickford would be better at passing and looks just as good as vito in other areas.

Its a joint effort between manager and team, manager shouldn't get all the credit when we win or all the blame when we lose, same as the players. Its now time to shut up and just do it, let the results talk for themselves.

Canny crap, footballers who cant pass to their own team
Liverpool game,Jones had a clear pass to a player sitting on the edge of the ctr circle,he was unmarked and ready to go,he dithered and gave them a goal.Good sides play it into marked men and still keep possession

Some of them do struggle. The two fullbacks especially. We have very few players who strengths are retaining the ball.
This, teams usually pass the ball out from defence from either full back or a defensive minded midfielder who drops in and get it from the keeper. In Jones, PVA and Cattermole we have three of the least technically gifted players in the division, no wonder we smash it long.

I don't believe you Sam. You could see from the off what he's game plan was.....sit deep defend a point for 70+mins and then try to hit them on the brake the last 15-20 mins.

Ecactly.

If this wasn't true, we wouldn't have had 10 behind the ball in our own third so much.

Bus wasn't even idling. It was parked.

Not that i'm shocked by that given Sam's history / tactics on away games against top table teams , but why fib about the strategy in the press??

Is he embarrassed to admit it publicly?

I mean...so the players get wind of this... they did what they were told by sam to do and then he tells the echo that he never planned those tactics / nor told them to do it and the players can't pass / are shite. That makes zero sense either to keep a settled dressing room...

So, I am going to believe Sam here... he wanted them to do more and the players tactically went into a bunker shell on their own and teed up hoofballs.

Plus Sam has presented a pretty honest facade in interviews up to this point. I doubt he's changed his tact on that here.

Long ball to Defoe is shit? I could have told him that. Once we were pinned back deep, swapping N'Doye with Defoe should have been order of the day without being forced to make more early subs. At least we would have had a chance of holding the ball up and raising the defensive line.

Cattermoles shocking man totally one footed it is not so much his passing is shit it's the fact his touch is so bad and he's that one footed

Equaliser against liverpool was good sharp passing. N'doye, catts, pva, khazri, defoe.

M'vila, Kirchoff, AJ can all pass and hold the ball well.

We can do it. It's confidence, playing with fear, being constantly in the bottom scrap for points. etc, etc.

Jones apart (and at the moment Catts- who's having a mare), I reckon we aren't all that bad on the ball.

...and if we try more of the same against Manure, we'll get stuffed! I'm just hoping Sam sets the lads up to take the game to them. Still think we can survive though, looking at our fixture list vs the other relegation contenders. Only time will tell!! KTF

Confirmation,as if it were needed, that most of these players don't have either the brains to follow a game plan or the skill to carry it out at this level. No surprise there. And,I would venture that when Allardyce seems to delay the changes,it's because of the doubts he has about the players' ability to adapt.
