Multiple Room Sound Systems

i'm looking at getting something like this at the now. most of the gadgies in the shops reckon sonos have the best product as they are more of a software company rather than a hardware company (eg; bose) and their platform is way better and more future proof than the others on the market.
the problem i have is that i still want to have the ability to play CD's so i would also need to buy something to hook that into the network (sonos connect?) which costs a fortune.

panasonic, lg and others have brought out multi room wifi systems with base units that do play cd's and have dab+ receivers so i'm a bit undecided at the moment.

I don't think anyone is streaming a live spinning CD across to a multi-room system to my knowledge. The basic precept seems to be that you have ripped your cd's to mp3, flac, apple etc..... then you can stream those from ipod's, iphones, tablets, computers, NAS/ network drives to whatever sonos pieces you have, and wherever they are around the house.
Yes... a Connect would be a stupid price but you could rip all your CD's (DBPoweramp is cheap and easy to use) to your computer, or a network enabled USB drive for a fraction of the cost... and then just use a Play:X to get to it......

to be fair it's the wife's problem... she's managed to loose her iphone library and can't be fucked to rip the cd's again. though the price of a connect etc seems to be more than say the panasonic all5cd.

we're also getting a couple of tablets for the household so could direct her in the way of the streaming services instead.

I built my own using Apple Airports and Klipsch speaker docks, I just use AirPlay from either my phone or an iPod full of music as a remote.

I use Apple AirPlay, a small (but powerful amp) and ceiling speakers in the bedroom and kitchen and an AirPlay hooked up to the 5.1 in the living room. I use an app called WHAALE if I want to use more than one room at a time and a Deezer account.
I use airplay plugged into a Tivoli Audio unit but I find it to be glitchy.

It's shit hot....I've got Bose multi room stuff..
I need to check this out.

how do you rate their software (the app etc). when i spoke to a dealer (that sells both sonos and bose) he didn't think much of it compared to the sonos system.
i was leaning toward bose before that as they have the soundtouch systems that play cd's and have dab+

It's quite simple to use, it's a bit of faff getting it set up in the first place, but once it's on its a piece of piss.
Plenty of regular updates etc.
I haven't seen the Sonos so can't really compare.
The deal sealer for me was the sound quality as you'd expect from Bose, the depth is amazing for its size, baffling almost...

Acquire copies! ;)

I have a play 5 and wish I got 2 play 1s. But aye Sonos are cracking.

Aren't connects about £300? Would it not be better to sell your existing g one and use the 300 for a connect towards a playbar?

A samsung surround isn't going to have the same sound quality so combining them Won't be as good

Would I need the Sonos sub though for the playbar to be any good? or would it work with my Samsung sub? Gets really pricey when you throw the sub in too.

Not sure to be honest but your right it's a fortune for the sub and m bar. Is there no where that does demos locally. I'd like to see what 2 plays 5s and a soundbar would be like. Won't be as good as with a sub and will lose bass at higher volume but depends how loud you need it for the house really

Yes! I read that airplay is notoriously glitchy? It doesn't do it all the time but when it does, it's a pain in the arse.
This happens to the missus because she uses the home hub wifi. Ive got the apple boxes connected by powerline adapters and creating their own wifi network which is what I use and it doesn't happen to me. I'm no expert but it's the only difference I can see.

I went into currys where they had sonos and Bose speakers set up. Personal preference sound wise was the. Sonos. I woul go for a play 1 or. 5 depending on your budget as I didn't think there was much difference between the play 1 and the play 3.
