Helmets mandatory at all levels now from next season

Personally I think it's a good idea! In arrogance/naivity I tried to play a beamer without a helmet.. A short trip to the walk in centre and 9 stitches after to be told an inch one way I was blind and an inch another it may have been fatal.. Needless to say I've worn one ever since!
Fatal????? The lad was only bowling under arm man!

Mate that's what the dramatic gentleman of an Asian persuasion said about it meaning my temple.. I couldn't believe it! If you remember it wasn't the first time he did it to me though!!

Yeah but he'll have been picturing a big strapping pace bowler (but like me ) hurling it down not some under 11 who could barely reach the other end! In fairness you should've twatted it into the castle lowes gardens.

Sorry Viv!! Nah I'm pleased I didnt, I may have injured his groundskeeper

can understand the 'rule' for batsman, though could never get comfortable with or see enough out of it when wearing one. Having to wear one in a friendly match because you are deemed close to the batsman as a fielder is a bit of a joke given the standard and spirit that these games are played in.

Think it's ridiculous personally. Grown men should be able to make their own decisions. Having to wear helmets when facing spinners and dibbly dobblers is a bit silly in my opinion.

2 years ago I would have agreed with you. Having nearly lost an eye, genuinely I got so lucky despite losing sight for a while, I disagree.

It's like wearing a seat belt

It's a safety thing, I have no problem with it. Even at junior level it doesn't cost that much to buy a couple of helmets and a couple of hundred of those hygiene hair nets.

It has to be a one for all rule as the problem comes with when you have to decide who is fast enough to require a lid. At this point I'd just like to point out that I faced Brett Lee without a helmet, but not everyone is as chos as me.

Hold on !!!!
This from a man who wears a helmet when facing "spinners and dibble cobblers". We even got you your own PINK helmet to wear last season.

I do hope this isn't our 'driving force' mischief making here mind!
Cast your mind back to finals day at the riverside where I was the only player not to wear a helmet (also the only player to whack it into stands twice as well but that's another story ) and I have photographic evidence as well!
The pink helmet was worn once and resulted in me being castled without troubling the scorers! Now as you know a man with as water tight technique as mine that's a very rare occurrence!

Me mischief making??? Never !!!
Yes you ruined a young Durham players livelihood. The poor young spinner was kicked out after your onslaught.
I'll send the pink helmet to LCC for next season.

I've never seen anyone at local level hit in the head through good bowling. It slways seems to be a top edge into the face trying to slog shite
That's what did me. Still didn't wear one the next week. Git hard or git stupid I don't know which!!

This. More dangerous when the spinners are on. Slice it onto the eyes/nose/

Even those technically amazing players who seem to think they aren't in danger cannot do anything about one in the back of the head when taking a quick single!

This. Or having to wear a helmet on a motorbike. As much as it should be freedom of choice, there are unfortunately a lot of idiots about who would happily not wear a seatbelt or a helmet on a motorbike. But these things have to be mandated at some point and cricket is the next thing - you have to think about the effect someone dying in a car crash by not wearing a seatbelt has on all the factors, not just the idiot that decided he didn't need to wear one. I.e his kids.

Well I suppose you have to act, with all those hundreds of cricketers being killed every season.

So you don't agree that kids should be mandated to wear cricket helmets either, given there hasn't be 'hundreds' of child cricketers killed?

Well when was the last child fatality on a cricket field?

Exactly, that's why I am asking if you agree that it should be mandated that kids wear a helmet given there hasn't been any deaths, as this is the reason you object to it being mandated to all players.
