Coin toss to be scrapped?

I sort of agree with SMoker, there has to be something wrong when no Test goes into a 4th day. But, looking at the detail....

Lords: Isn't Lords often like that ..... except when it's cloudy and then the ball swings. As it happened this years the sky was clear and there was no swing so advantage Australia.
Trent Bridge: Has a reputation of swinging early and it did, the problem was that the Australians had pretty much lost the match by the time it stopped.

I don't know how you go about preparing a swinging pitch.

Rather than look at changing the coin toss maybe they should look at the ball.

Thank fuck somebody does!

Re: ball, I presume you mean standardising the ball for test cricket? The Indians will not give up the SG lightly mind, nor England the Duke...

I just don't think Australia are a very good side and they proved

I disagree completely with this talk of home pitches being a bad thing. That's the whole point? That's why it's called Test cricket. It tests all your skills.

I don't always agree with Johnson, but he's bang on, winning a Test Series away from home is special. It should be difficult. Our 2012 win in India was a fantastic achievement. We beat them at their own game, in their own backyard after losing the first Test.

So what if home sides prepare a pitch to suit their strengths, if you win the toss you can do whatever you want. I firmly believe we'd have got a result in the UAE had Cook won the toss at either Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

On the Ashes subject, did you watch any of the coverage? Because the Aussie batting failures were all about poor technique and shot selection. Even Aussie pundits were saying that.

100% with this.

Duke drops to pieces in the subcontinent, SG has no swing, Kookaburra doesn't seam much and has very little purchase for spinners. Standardising on one of the three will disadvantage someone. Perhaps the answer is a new consensus ball, like a kookaburra with a more pronounced seam...

They whitewashed us 5-0 in Aus and beat South Africa away. They schooled us in the two London tests.

They're number three in the ICC test rankings which feels about right.

 He just agreed with you, of course you are.

They are shocking anywhere else apart from Australia and South Africa, which are the same conditions just about.

I think most people feel the same way about the ashes, a total myth spread about the Aussies.

Next you will be saying it was too quick and there was too much carry at Perth!

by the way I watched South Africa bat yesterday and they were shocking, a lot of the dismissals were down to themselves.

West Indies?

So that's two away series wins and three losses (if you include 2013 Ashes) under Lehman. We haven't won an away series since 2012.

What is? They're a bloody good side.

The thinking from a lot of Australians is that they should use a Duke ball as the Kookaburra isn't responsive enough for long enough. Swings a little for maybe 10 overs, then goes soft.

As an aside, I believe one day matches all use a white kookaburra - which is worth considering on the subject of why they're more evenly contested or why the ball doesn't do as much.

Here's the latest: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cr...in-all-County-Championship-games-in-2016.html

Fuck me, I thought the original idea was bad enough but they've managed even to make it worse .

The ECB are a f***ing joke.

West Indies????

Clutching at straws here, they can't bat on pitches that so anything

Comes back to the same point, you are deluded if you think they were poor pitches

You still haven't answered how we were 270-4 on day 1!! Yeah it was a f***ing mine field! No logic to what you are saying

I thought Morgan's comments on it were interesting as he said it was a terrible idea until someone explained it was to improve pitches, he then changed his tune and said the pitches were a disgrace last year so if it did it help with improved pitches he was all for it.
I think it's not the right way to go about but at least the ECB are trying to safeguard county teams producing test players. I always thought this rule might be brought in at some point but at a local level then pro level.

Look sunshine, if you can't hold a discussion without throwing insults then don't f***ing bother. Back on the ignore list you go, along with your Alter Ego.

You spent the entire West Indies tour telling us how they were a decent team, when Australia thrash them it doesn't count tuppence...

Where on earth did I insult you there??? Don't be a fanny man.

You are another one who will do anything not to give England credit. We won the ashes, but obviously disc to the poor pitches. You still haven't answered how we were 270-4 on day 1 of a mine field

Ps I love you think I have an alter ego!

Interesting idea, anything that erodes home advantage and makes it a more even contest the better.

I don't think it will do that anyway, if you want to bat first you still have to win a toss. If anything all it will do is make pitches more vanilla, and that starts to go too far away from the core values and skills of English cricket. Is the swinging and seaming ball such a bad thing?! Is it fuck. We should play to our strengths.
