ecb introduced new laws starting next season for all men and woman to wear helmets at all levels. This includes fielding in close up to 8 yards from bat and keepers standing up.

Good law u think.

Will take some getting used to for lads who never wear em.

Think its a good idea personallybut anticipate a massive shitstorm.

Personally I think it's a good idea! In arrogance/naivity I tried to play a beamer without a helmet.. A short trip to the walk in centre and 9 stitches after to be told an inch one way I was blind and an inch another it may have been fatal.. Needless to say I've worn one ever since!

I play filthy standard and nearly lost my eye. Top edged it.

Its hardly a disgrace
I've been hit in the head before and ive seen others get cuts it doesn't put me off so why should I not have the choice anyone who doesn't wear a helmet knows the risks involved.

Should all fielders wear helmets as they might get hit, umpires, wicketkeepers. At a time when cricket is struggling the last thing we need is rules like this putting people off.

I'm not against helmets I have worn them very occasionally, it's definitely harder due to never having to wear them as a junior but I should have the choice.

You get used to it.

Fielders shouldn't unless close to the bat.

Hughes, Broad, Kieswetter, Chunky, Rogers, Morgan. It's been a bad year for injuries. Just wear it (I'm aware a lot of them were)

I think it's a good idea to wear a helmet . My lads both always wear one as they came in when they were kids. Dint think they should be mandatory though personal choice in the amateur game for adults .

As i'm an owld bastard it was never mandatory for me to have to wear a helmet as a junior so i've never really worn one as an adult(only really worn one in 1st team games). I've also managed to top edge one onto my brow which could have caused major injury had i not turned my head to see where the ball was going - had a cracking shiner for a few weeks!!

I'm planning on starting to wear one for all games next week as i feel my eyesight is starting to go a bit.

EDIT - Link here http://www.ecb.co.uk/news/articles/ecb-announces-new-helmet-safety-measures

Mandatory for professionals but recommended at all levels.

I am all for helmets being compulsory for batsmen. Yes it is controversial but it was in other sports too, and is now simply seen as the norm.

I wore a helmet once when I was 12 year old and never since. I played in a game last year when walking to the crease and opponents said ''you sure you dont want to wear a helmet?'' due to bowler I was facing, however I know the risks and willing to risk my good looks. Feels like I cant see a thing through the grill.

I've never seen anyone at local level hit in the head through good bowling. It slways seems to be a top edge into the face trying to slog shite

Yeah I once top edged ball into my face,so for next 10 games or so wore a helmet, could not bat with it as was terrible, went back to not wearing a helmet and started scoring again, probably all in the head like.
