Its true they are desperate to escape- so they cross into turkey where they are safe- then macedonia, greece, hungary, Czexh rep, germany, Holland, Belgium, France - they are 'safe' and have 'escaped' if they settle in any of these countries- but they prefer to be 'safe' in the land of plenty. So when the tories keep axing cancer treatments because the NHS is creaking lets keep encouraging more and more to settle- It saves the rest of europe having them- we should take our share and no more.

Two kinds of migrants, firstly those who are genuinely fleeing persecution, I think most people wouldn't mind forking out a few bob to feed them until it is safe for them to return, and then we have economic migrants who basically have no right to stay. Separate the two and send the economics back as quickly and cheaply as is humanely possible.

that picture of the little boy on the beach is horrific, and a terrible sight. But does that mean everysingle person from any country that is shit to live in, we should allow them all to come here? even if its in the tens of millions. I don't think anyone blames migrants for wanting to get into the EU, if I lived in an Islamic shit hole, with no money, etc I'd get my family on the nearest boat, train, or walk here. Thats why talks of quotas and so on will not stop the problem growing. Its a free for all now and European leaders don't seem to grasp that the old rules dont apply anymore. I sometimes feel that the lefties wanting to allow anyone in actually want to turn Europe in a new Islamic Caliphate. As a non religious person I'm pleased that christianity is on the decline but lets not replace it with something else.

Are you suggesting that we transport people directly from Turkey into the UK safely so that they dont have to make the crossing? If so, how many would you be happy to transport across and where would they live once they were across here?

It's a horrible picture.
What I don't understand is the people sharing it on Twitter who are blaming Europe for the boy's death. The boat sank after leaving Turkey. Those on board hadn't been deterred by Europe's treatment of migrants - they were willing to risk their lives, and those of their children, to get there.
Are those blaming Europe for this death seriously saying that we should be actively shipping in the migrants and asylum seekers from Turkey? What would that do to the numbers?

I've sometimes asked myself if I would have been one of those people who pretended they had a job going for a servant so that another Jew could get out of Nazi Germany (some/all were only allowed into the UK if they had a job to go to) and I've always hoped the answer would be yes. I don't live alone so the decision wouldn't be solely mine, but I appreciate one has to put one's money where one's mouth is, so it's a yes from me.
