We often have threads on here about the music we like but what about the music that your parents liked that may have ended up influencing you in some way?

My fathers very first record bought was IIRC a one by Matt Munro. He also liked Nat Kng Cole:

Probably helped me to perhaps like soul music.

My grandmother loved Jim Reeves. Remember a stack of his 7" singles falling off the the Dansette record player, including this one, which reminds me of her even to this day:

My mam liked Cliff but wouldn't dream of buying a record.
My Dad got into the rock stuff that we were into as teens, he was over the moon when he caught Skynyrd's Free Bird encore when he came to pick us up from the City Hall and came with me to see Thin Lizzy on the Live and Dangerous tour, freaking out in his checky jacket and crimplene trousers. Best Dad ever.

Bit of an age difference thing going on here though. Grandparent >> Could be someone in their late forties . However there could be some on here who had grandparents born in the late 1800s.

Me gran was a huge shadows fan, me dad is the same as me and listens to owt from the stones, beatles, through to Johnny Cash and the classical stuff

Dad loved Vera Lynn and Jim Reeves.

Mother loved owt you could dance to..and anything Irish. Remember her hearing Anarchy in the UK. Got a bit of a beat she said, but that singer needs a few lessons

Love roy orbison songs because of my dad. Not something I'd buy but the beach boys bring back memories as well.

Dad was into this sort of stuff...which even now, with the benefit of age, I can listen to and think it's got a tune to it...not the ad before it, but the actual song. The vid is also a bit shit, but there you go.
Mam on the other hand listened to classical/opera.
I suppose that's why I got into rock and metal when I was about 12.

Mam was right into Cliff and Bobby Vee, dad into the Beatles and the Stones, Kinks etc dunno where my love of Elvis came from but it caught their imagination (and memories probably!) and they now appreciate him nearly as much as I do !
