Future of Saturday Cricket

It doesn't seem to be in the north east.
Loads of games conceded again this year. Clubs with a diminishing junior section. Lowering of standards all round junior cricket wise, through not enough players. Seen teams like South North turn up this season for junior games with just 8/9 men. Said a while ago on here that the future for the smaller clubs is to amalgamate. One of the biggest problem is a lack of volunteers. No nets for bairns in the winter or even in the summer at some clubs. Lads basically dropping a bat in September and picking it up again the following April.

You can tell county wise. A lot of the DCB representative teams have done quite poor this year. Clearly as my lad is embroiled in junior (and senior) cricket I get too see and hear quite a lot of stories at his games and even at senior level there is quite a lot of turmoil at some clubs. Every season the same club names seem to crop up as about to fold.

Some must be right on the edge.

A bit like the football, there are too many clubs IMHO. not enough money or players to go around them all.

I've always found amalgamations don't really work, players are too loyal to their old club, ends up with both clubs folding.
