It's interesting that not one of the local journalists (I know) have questioned the sale as being bad business. They all seem to agree that it was the best thing all round.
I know we take the piss out of them for knowing nowt but I really wouldn't be surprised if they heard bits and pieces about players from managers/coaches or even other players.

How come Fletcher is still here then? He doesn't strike me as a model pro, what with the doughnuts and his inability to run faster than 5mph

Ah, I get it! There is no underlying rationale. You sell whoever you can, when you can. Is that like a fire sale? :)

You missed the point.

What I'm saying is that the talks for Lens & M'Vila may well have started at the same time but concluded at different times.

There may well be ongoing talks for Fletcher & Graham as well as more incoming.

The links with Sow started well before Wickham was sold so it's quite possible another forward will come in.

All I'm saying is that the first one on the list, either in or out, may be the last to be concluded.

Cant blame the lad for moving tbf, imagine not being preferred to Fletcher and Graham in the middle

He is much better than both, I'd be jumping at a move as well. Better team, much nicer place to live, probably more money.

Imagine not doing enough to force them out .......... perhaps he's asked to play wide.

TBH he didn't do enough to keep Altidore out, imagine that.

I agree he doesn't, I'm not sure I've ever said differently. But this was specifically about Wickham not Fletcher

Maybe not yourself, plenty people on here the other day saying they rated Fletcher better than Wickham, fact is he's far worse. Neither of them are great, maybe if we get someone decent in we can say it was good business - just bemused by some thinking it's great business in the absence of a replacement and with two bigger duds still here.

Didn't realise his beard was so ginger. For that reason I'm happy he's gone.

Nah good luck Connor, good player in there somewhere.

I'd happily chip in to get Fletcher out of the club but 'facts' are relative.

Fletcher, in his best run, was better than Wickham, in his best, so 'potentially' Fletcher is the better bet.

mate, when was that, 3 years ago? It's never going to happen - it's a shame - I'd love them all to score 20 goals a season but he hasn't got the speed or strength to play up top on his own.

I think they are all much of a muchness, I don't think Wickham or Fletcher are much better than each other to be honest and I don't think Fletcher is far worse.
The only advantage for me was Wickhams age.
I'm going to give the club the chance to bring in a replacement before I judge whether it was good business.

Wickham was a lot more versatile/quicker hence why he could do a job of sorts on the left. Yeah let's see what the club comes come up with I just think people should cut the lad a bit of slack, he did play a key role in keeping us up - unfortunately I bet that bastard Pardew gets a tune out of him.

Here's a run down of how many points our attacking players have earned us through their goals since they joined...

Fletcher - 28 points
Johnson - 23 points
Larsson - 16 points
Wickham - 15 points
Defoe - 10 points

Wickham has done fuck all as a striker apart from the great escape when he had 4 good games. That's it. Four years and he's earned us 15 points, the big striker with loads of potential. Even Larsson has earned us more points and he rarely scores apart from free kicks.

And Defoe, signed just 6 months ago, has earned us 10 points. I don't think some people quite understand how much of a waste of money Wickham has been.

All I'm saying is that all kinds of excuses are tripped out for Wickham which I don't think he necessarily deserves.

You could claim Fletcher has had various injuries over the last 3 years if you wanted to, I don't.

All I keep wondering, with Wickham, is why manager after manager, who were desperate for goals, has preferred Altidore, Graham, Fletcher.

Now that a vastly experienced manager, like Advocaat, is happy for him to go it makes me wonder even more.

But for 'the great escape' I'd have few fond memories of the lad tbh.

I honestly have no beef about him personally I've said that elsewhere, even the lifestyle stuff doesn't bother me, he's a young lad earning a fortune and the only evidence I've really seen of him partying was when he was on holiday, why wouldn't he.
I just think sometimes for players and clubs, for both to progress it's sometimes best to maybe realise it's not working and go separate ways. I wish him the best of luck though.

to justify their buys in some cases? I mean Altidore, Christ. I get what your saying but I think Wickham is better than those three and Pardew clearly rates him. Anyway, hopefully we'll sign Huntelaar :)
