Allowing yourself the luxury of retiring "civil servants" at 50 on borrowed money is what reduces you to servitude. Yep - I know that a lot of the money that has been pumped into Greece by the Euro-zone has been to cover the potential losses of German (and other) banks - but the buck stops fairly and squarely on Greece's doorstep.

Mate, I'm not sure you understand the point.

You're absolutely right that Greece needs to change its policies on social welfare. Absolutely. But that is like blaming the poor in the UK that take 3% of out GDP, and not blaming the bankers that took 12% of it because of their illegal risk taking. Who do you blame? Bankers or the poor?

The Greek welfare is responsible for around 12% of the current Greek debt. The other 88% is made up of interest, bank debt that was given to them unwanted, and a result of the EU forging Greek financial audits because of desperation to have them included in the EU because of the their strong military strategic position.

So whilst I completely understand why you think like this, I hope you try to understand that that tired and cliched viewpoint of Greek debt isn't correct. I have a feeling you won't try to do that, but perhaps you might.

Can't believe this thread. Are people on here seriously really offended by those chants at a football match or is this a git big wind-up?

Wayne The Punk has hoyed his toys right out of the pram over it. He's probably onto the head office of the Liberal Democratic Party right now lodging a complaint about this incident. I reckon he thinks it's on a par with the the troubles at the French side of the Euro Tunnel

We put ourselves on a pedestal as far as football fans go and rightly so, but let's not try and fool one another into believing that we don't have more than our fair share mindless morons following us :(

Good point. A question of time before we unveil our very own 'horse-puncher' or possibly worse :(

Of course it is . Did you not read my first post?

Why all this hate? People would describe me as a socialist lift winger. I'm part of many anti-racism groups, and I spend roughly 15 hours per month active in campaigning against prejudice in many forms in the UK and across Europe.

People like yourself are common, and seen every day in our groups. Well intended, and very welcome. The world needs to discuss racism and all forms of prejudice more. However, I'm not sure it is well placed in this instance.

There is currently a lot of dialogue around the role of nationalism within a colourblind and progressive state. To suggest that football fans singing a national anthem and nationalistic song is racist doesn't do our cause any good in the long term. Let's focus our efforts on real, tangible racism that exists on every street corner throughout the world.

If you genuinely care about this topic, and it isn't a wind up effort, I would invite you to become involved in some of our active work.

They paid the money to go to Germany when most did not so they can sing what they want, fair pay for going over for a pre season game.

Just because they paid their money they shouldn't be able to "sing whatever they want".

They are representatives of the club and our fan base as a whole.

Singing about England/Britannia in general doesn't bother me. It's not racist or discriminatory. However, they were not there supporting England, they are there supporting Sunderland.

English national songs should only be sung when England are playing.

Sunderland > England

Few silly songs in Germany as they allowed drinking on terrace, to label it massively racist is a bit over the top.

Isn't representing our club going in the concourse at half time and throwing beer about ?

They can't. Stop being silly.
Did they need to waste beer like the norm
These days ?
