For those who've never been.

If you're travelling by train there are two stations at the airport. There's an S-Bahn (train number S11) station in terminal 3 and the train leaves approx every 20 minutes and takes about 12 minutes to get to the main station. Follow the signs for S-Bahn.

There is also Dusseldorf Flughafen station which is to the NE of the airport. Follow the signs for the Skytrain and take it to the station. Trains run every few minutes to the HBF and take 6-12 minutes. Only use the RB, RE & S-Bahn trains.

Tickets are available from machines in the airport and at the stations. All of Dusseldorf is in zone a. Get a TagesTicket which cost the following:

6.60€ - 1 person
9.70€ - 2 people
12.80€ - 3 people
15.90€ - 4 people
19.00€ - 5 people

You can add further people, costs are displayed on the machines when purchasing. These tickets are valid for travel on bus, tram, U-Bahn and above rail services until 03:00 the next day.

Finally, for those who don't know the area, the stop for the Altstadt is Heinrich-Heine-Allee. Trams & U-Bahn serve this stop. You can reach this stop direct from just about anywhere in Dusseldorf. Once there, follow the signs for Altstadt, attend the longest bar in the world, enjoy!

We'll just be heading down the Altstadt I think as it'll probably be about 10pm before we turn out after getting all checked in etc. That's still plenty time though as bars open canny late.

The ticket machines are a right fuck on, and not getting a ticket isn't worth the risk (speaking from experience)

Checked in about 2 hours ago. Only in the air about 57 mins, not bad! Based about 200 yards from the train station in Dusseldorf. Excellent!
