Hey, it's about opinion...

I'm working nights till Friday. Not sure whether to watch till just before tea then sleep or wake up just after lunch.

Just don't want to wake up and see England 60-5 or Australia 150-0!

Hopefully not! I really think it will be close. My lad thinks we will win reasonably comfortably(?!). He is a different character to his dad:lol::rolleyes:

Even if we get hammered at Cardiff I am still not sure we can say totally how the series will go, I think our best chance is on seaming wickets which might come later in the series

@smoker is right it will spin more than any other pitch we will play on, I am just not sure it will spin enough to justify picking 2 spinners, unless we drop a batsman, which is a risk but an attacking move. Point got lost in translation slightly.

Smoker's point is valid, but definitely not two spinners in my opinion.

Ali is an acceptable batsman and unlikely to get bounced out if the pitch is playing slow. Drop Bell or Ballance, nudge Root, Stokes up the order, with Ali at seven, Buttler at eight.

Besides, if the pitch is spinner friendly, we won't need four seamers so Wood could drop out.

With Wood's injury record it might be a sensible idea (if it is a spinner friendly pitch) to drop him and keep him fresh for the seam friendly pitches

Taken from the Aussie ABC.com...
'Clarke added he would have no hesitation in sending the opposition in on day one of an Ashes, a tactic that famously backfired in 2002 for Nasser Hussain at the Gabba.'

No mention of Ponting in 2005 :lol::lol::lol:

Buttler is an absolute waste at 8.

It's going to be overcast early, still think you should be batting first though

Its interesting the perceptions of some people, Ali gets called one of the youngsters, and I guess he in terms international experience

Was just reading that he played in the same Under 19 world cup team as Cook, and captained him! just shows you how remarkable Cook's career has been I guess.

Right, come on then you Aussie bastards.

Aside from the ridiculous decision to play the first test at Cardiff (or any ashes test at Cardiff for that matter), and the gaping hole in the upper middle order, I don't think anyone can resist being more confident now than they were about three months ago given England's one day form and the injury to Harris. It will be interesting to see if the positivity generated by the one day team can engulf the test side and if it does, we have a chance.

It's also nice to go into such a big series with so much reading on the performances of two Durham lads.

Just been listening to that Freddie and Vaughan podcast on the 2005 ashes , a canny old listen

They played aggers commentary on Flintoffs over at edgbaston

Still gets the goosebumps going

We will batter these bastards today like

Bat ...cook 100 ... 400 up after 80 overs, Johnson rattled to fuck as 48 year old Brad Haddin puts his back out chasing a 10 yard leg side wide

Fingers crossed. Mind you, I felt exactly this way leading into the last series down under:rolleyes:

No way is Adil Rashid a better bat than Moeen imo

I'd put Moeen at 5, drop Ballance, Rashid at 8, Broad 9, Wood 10
I know moeen bats in the top 3. But when he's played in division 2 most of his career and adil has batted in division 1 his whole career. Moeens record is marginally better.

It's basically not as clear cut as it once was, as Rashid is an excellent bat now.

Oh just seen the stats or clarke and cook in Ashes with the bat. In England clark averages 48 in 15 tests and cook in 10 tests averages 26 with a top score of 95  All of cooks hundred came in Aus.
