if and i dont expect it to be but say we are 4-0 down, will cook no longer captain and bell and ballance are out, could the team be

hales, lyth, root, taylor, bairstow, stokes, buttler, ali, rashid, wood, anderson. root or anderson captain. just pure speculation

If we are 4-0 down the side could be anything

Lyth could well have made 8 scores under 20. Ballance could average 50.

One thing I guarantee, unless it is turning square they will not go in with 2 spinners and Stokes as a 3rd seamer

cook would still be in the side

if we are 4-0 down we may see borthwick again

In for. who

If Bell or Ballance fail in first test he will be in but they deserve a chance to redeem themselves but the pressure is on both.
Bell won't be dropped for 1 poor test. No chance

Bell needs to bat at 3 in this series.
That ship has sailed. Should have been at 3 since coming back in to the side in 2009 but doesn't want the responsibility. Again, should have moved to 3 in 2013/14 when Trott left the tour, but was happy to let Root get messed around again. Scores some good runs, but never been a fan of Bell, I think he is mentally weak

Who would you play Bairstow instead of mate?

Tough one, probably have to be Ballance, even though I am a big fan of his. I think Ballance will have a fantastic test career, no doubts about that in my head, but in Ashes series there is a lot to be said of playing the man in form, I'm just convinced Bairstow would play runs if he was picked. Won't happen anyway, so hopefully Ballance can see off the new ball at Cardiff

They shouldn't do either IMO. As Colly pointed out when the pitch is dry you can get reverse swing, something Wood is very good at

id rather bell was dropped than ballance reckon bell has been poor for a while apart from the one hundred against the west indies

Huge difference between scoring runs in County Cricket and International Cricket. Barstow has been found wanting in both spells in the team. Ballance has proven himself thus far (albeit with a poor recent series v NZ) and deserves to keep his place

I am a big Ballance fan

Bairstow is a lot better player than he was then, altered his technique, he was picked too early. There is scoring county runs and then there is this type of form. He has made mincemeat of 2 of the better attacks in the last week.

I just think England are missing a trick.
