Running Thread 2015

Thought so. I was the fat lad in the stroller top shouted on way back. You'll been 4k in I was bout 5.5 and goin other direction. Decent running for that time. Wad by the way :D:eek::oops:
Stroller, whats yer name?

Done South shields triathlon this morning after the Chevy Chase fell race yesterday, 20 miles. Swim was great, bike was tough and my legs were dead on the run.

You can see me on the video, just after 2:30, see me running on the sand towards the steps, my wetsuit is still fully done up.

First attempt at running for a long time this morning. Had a couple of false starts since I got out of hospital and today was a nightmare (not even two miles) but going to stick with it. Think it's purely fitness now rather than anything hospital related.
I've managed to develop quite a kite whilst I've been out as well.

Had a mare in the 10k yesterday, ended up pulling out around 4k as the Blerch got me and I didn't feel like I could continue. Legs were like lead and I felt ill. I punished myself by walking into Newcastle and going to the gym to do shoulders and go on the bikes as those are my least favourite things to do. It was a bit pathetic of me (especially since I've completed 4 Great North Runs without stopping so the distance shouldn't have been an issue) but my head just isn't in the right place lately. Can't seem to get myself sorted mentally, any time the little voice tells me to give up I do. :(

Well the pair of you did far better than all the lazy bastards laying on their sofa's who can't be arsed to do any exercise, so give yourselves a pat on the back for at least having a go ;)

It tells lies.

Did he say how long out for mate?
And are you able to cycle or swim in the meantime ?- if can its a great way to maintain most of your fitness

E ery thing I have been reading about back injuries say I have to keep active and change my posture when sat down, do I've been doing short jogs 3 mile this morning, it's more my legs that felt it this morning, I've been stretching a lot aswell and tomorrow I'm going for a swim after work down boldon just to keep myself moving and active, hopefully it settles quickly and I can crack on finding a race to keep me motivated

Unfortunately, I'm a gullible bastard.

Anyway I'm not feeling too disheartened. I've always had a love/hate relationship with running and if my training for the Great North Run doesn't go well and a PB is out of the question (probably already is tbh) I might just drop back a few zones and run/walk with my sister who has lost loads of weight and is going to be doing her first one. I'd probably enjoy that much more anyway than slogging around myself if I'm not feeling up to scratch.

You can say hi to me at the back

Steady 9k run with the running club tonight. First 7k just took me to me then pushed out for last 2k. Took just under 50 minutes. That's me done for a few days now. What with Hamsterley on Saturday and tonight I have some aching muscles that need a rest. Probably out on Friday next

On a related note we had a record 24 turn out for club night this evening

I achieved a personal worst today!

I decided to run to work, which is 5 miles door to door. It is amazing what a difference a heavy ruck sack with lunch, towel, clothes, shoes, shower stuff etc makes. After about a mile, every step felt so heavy. Most of the route is a gravel track so you lose quite a bit of energy pushing against that, then one mile in is a killer of a hill where the majority of cyclists get off and push. I have been doing 5 mile runs without a problem, but this killed me and I had quite a lot of spells walking.

It is probably a good way to build up some real running power but not helpful for GNR training when I'm looking at increasing distance.

I did a short sharp 4 miles on Thursday before embarking on a stag weekend on the lash. According to my Garmin, I broke my mile record and 5k record (7.11 and 23.15 respectively), which I was happy with. Just done my first run since and sweated the last of the weekends excesses out.

How much did it weigh? That's a favourite trick of a personal trainer friend of mine. She makes people run with a rucksack weighing one stone and tells them to pay attention to how their body feels, especially their knees and hips. Then she takes it off them and makes them run again and notice how much easier it is. She said that is the best way to remind people what your body has to endure all day every day if you put one stone in weight on. So although it was hell, it'll put you off putting weight on :D
