Tall Ship

In case you've missed it, one is coming in to the Wear this Thursday afternoon.

Photo opportunity?
I went to the tall ships on the Thames last summer. Great to see but hard to photograph well. I found the background spoiled the outline of the ships. Still good fun, and part of photography is just going out with your camera and trying.
This was probably my best photo of the ships...

This shows how hard it was to photo the ships with the background....

Isn't it the norm these days just to photoshop the background out and replace it with some blue sky with white fluffy clouds (and perhaps a rainbow and the moon)?

I'd guess you are right but I have no interest in that. The challenge is to get your position right and get that elusive photo. That is photography; the altering of the end result is a different skill - productive and possibly financially rewarding but not photography (imho) .

Saw it last weekend from the glass centre. It's not a huge one, and difficult to get a decent shot of it being at Corporation Quay.
