Given the huge debate one of yer told me about Durham playing one match in Northumberland, what are your thoughts on that. Dedication that from the Northumbrians :D
Pah, Northumbrians are those North of the Humber!

Personally, we have this Newcastle/Sunderland thing in football I think it's daft to carry it over into cricket. So for me the more the merrier and to include them that's from Carlisle way and that.

"No comment" on the Durham playing a game in Northumberland last season :)

As for the couple who travel down from Berwick, amazing dedication

Torn on this

More the merrier

But at the end of the day its Durham not Northumberland. If they want to take it to out grounds it should be ones within the county, thats just common sense

If people from Northumberland want to come and watch Durham, thats brilliant, but the clue is in the name.

But it's what I said in another threat. The population of the North-East region is 2.5 million, that's all. If you're deciding from the off to choose your supporters from that number you're on the way to having a worse cricket setup.

I've been sat with a couple for the last few days who come down from Berwick and got to almost every away game :) dedication that
Fair play that like. Have some people on my SAFC supporters bus who come from galashiels to most games. I'd come all the time if I lived close, can't just pop along on my days off as easy as most of you fellas.

Just to hoy my two cents in, I disagreed at the time with the decision to play in Northumberland even though I'm Northumbrian born and bred.

Not the best on matters geography but isn't South Northumberland CC in Tyne and Wear? Still not Durham but doesn't the same apply to Gateshead Fell when they hosted Durham games. Could be wrong here mind.

All of Newcastle and North Shields are in Tyne and Wear but the historic boundary of Co Durham is the River Tyne in the North and the Tees in the south. Of course many people living on the south bank of the Tyne valley see Newcastle as the centre of the region, the same as BBC North (apart from Marty and Jeff Brown).

to be clear, I meant to say if you exclude potential supporters from Northumberland then you've purposely chosen to half (or thereabouts) your supporter base and to my mind that's just plain stupid.

I travel down every game from Northumberland as do a few others I know or have spoken to. Without doubt Durham is the county team but it is also our regional first class team that attracts support from all over the place.

Gateshead Fell is historically within the Durham boundary (pre 1974)

Aye, this. Tees to the Tyne was County Durham (give or take a few areas to the west of the county). Yorkshire always used to play at Middlesbrough. Only stopped in the 80s because of the state of the wicket iirc.

Too be fair, Durham CCC for me as a Durham lad, represents all North East cricket. Harmy and Woody are Northumberland lads but we wouldn't make an issue of it because North East cricket isn't set up or looked upon in that way and long may it continue cos we can do without it and would only cause damage to the club.

I may be a million miles wrong but I suspect the South North game raised a few hairs around the area more so because they're a wealthy club with a well to do reputation.

I think we should be playing in the south of the county from time to time as they used to before the Riverside opened (Stockton, Darlington, Hartlepool etc). Best matches to attend are the out grounds as well cos you generally get a bit of grass to lie on. Always check Durham's away matches to see if we're down to play at any.
