1970's Glam Rock!!

I came across this documentary which, in particular, features Marc Bolan, Bowie, Bryan Ferry, Suzi Quatro, Slade and Elton John.

It lasts nearly an hour but imho is well worth watching!

Many groups missing though - which were your favourites?
Canny watch that, even though I couldn't stand most of those covered at the time. Criminal lack of The Sweet and Gary Glitter though. Shirley the biggest names in glam rock? One even has an orifice named after them.

I always loved The Sweet. 'Sweet Fanny Adams' and 'Desolation Boulevard' are great albums. The B sides to the singles were great. I always had a soft spot for Wizzard as well. The first album 'Wizzard's Brew' is great.

Look at the clip of some of them man.

Compared to who marra?

Teddyboys, mods, new romantics or the kids who walk round today in skinny jeans thinking they look "cool".

At least those in the music industry have an excuse for cultivating an "image", if you watch the documentary they explain the whys and wherefores of achieving that goal.

Gary Glitter?

So one in the "Glam Rock" business is a proven nonce, does that mean every male in Sunderland is, because I'm sure that more than one will have been proven to be?

It would be very interesting for Marc Bolan, Bowie, Bryan Ferry, Suzi Quatro, Slade and Elton John's lawyers to learn that someone is classing them as such!

I liked that era. There were some mediocre bands like Mud but the likes of T.Rex & Slade were genuinely good bands. The Sweet as well, once they moved away from the lightweight pop they proved to be a very decent band.

Gary Glitter's pre Christmas concerts were a right old good night out , seen his show at both Whitley Bay ice rink and the Metro arena.

Anyone who went will remember them well , this was way before the nonce allegations came out.

I just enjoyed the fact that they provided something totally different to anything that had gone before.

That's what he was getting at plus the general 70s penchant for bucking bairns I think. I quite like a lot of it.
I know a few lads in a Sunderland band called Hyde and Beast. Dave Hyde was the drummer in the Futureheads, Neil was in the Golden Virgins. Their latest album has a glam thump sound. Give them a try.

I only said it in reference to how all the old timers on here take the piss out of todays youth culture. They seem to forget that they were young once and dressed equally if not more stupidly.

There's only one original member of Sweet left - Andy Scott. Brian Connolly and Mick Tucker are dead and god knows where Steve Priest is.
