hopefully those intent on belittling the club over this will shut the fuck up. They've played a blinder in appointing dick and its just a shame he didnt want to stay.

Massive club, fantastic heritage, first class facilities, f***ing amazing support, in the top league in the world, we should have a queue a mile long, and we should be picking from the top of the table.

If our board believe in all of this, we are good to go.

Clearout of the poorer players surely.

Attitude wise, yes. We can't put an inexperienced man in there or we're repeating the Di Canio/Poyet scenario again - players running the club. Bring in some proper leaders and break that clique.

Having Dick at the club has been superb, he has raised our profile, spoken in glowing terms about us, and the people, the facilities.
We have retained our league status, an now we start again, with a huge opportunity.

There are NO negatives, that does not mean that we expected him to stay, we simply don't know, and if the board choose wisiely now we will be in a great position, with a friend to tap up for his input, I would say that is a great situation.
Well there's one thing for certain, Dick has made sure we will get a better class of manager, just by keeping us up.
Still think he may of even put a name forward himself, hence him saying he wouldn't mind helping in an advisory roll.

So up there with Man City, Chelsea and Man Utd. I'd find that acceptable.
We appointed a man once who was the second highest paid in the entire country and we weren't even in the top league................

How did that work out then..........;)

Or it could just be spin?

Me too

Either way we do know what league we are in, the top league, we know that a man as experienced as Dick was genuinely impressed with us, spoke of our underperformance, advised what type of players we need, the calibre of our signings, he totally bought into what we are about, and what makes us tick.

If he can identify what we need in such a short space of time, then it should be simple for those insitu to deliver it, if we don't do that now the buck only lands in one place.

If nothing else comes of his departure, he has at least shone a light on what needs to be done, and it aint rocket science to deliver it.

I would say we are in an incredibly strong position.

What they offered him mint wages so he would put himself through the same shite as the last managers? Sounds to me like Dick has his head on right.

Yep, in eight to ten months time this set of players would have seen him off and we'd be all loving whoever it was that came in to save us at the death, again.

Not well. I'd like to see us try again though. How about you?
We wont be paying manager wages on a par with the top four...........their level of manager wouldn't come anyway as we don't have the money to spend they require..........

Good post.

The very fact that Dick only came for the short term and the club got under his skin to the extent that he even considered staying on (and not for the money) speaks volumes.

Hopefully his respected position in world football (and the money ) will send out a message to other potential managers of what Sunderland are about.

It's a great opportunity to move the club forward and I just hope upon hope that the club make the most of it.

As a footnote, I'd also like to hope that Dick retains some ties with the club, spreads the word so to speak, is there to help with a bit of 'scouting' from his obvious worldwide network if asked, and just provide some advice, consultation and wisdom if needed.
