Stick with Lyth. Robson's technique looked pretty ordinary last time he had a go. Hales looks good, but he's not opening for Notts currently. Mind you if Ballance and Bell continue to play the way they are going he might be getting a run out in the middle order. Bell looked like he'd lost the plot in the 2nd innings at Lords.

No chance, he has 1 bad test! he's averaging 58, he is here for the long haul man

He has earned that right but I'm not convinced. If he sits there on the back foot as he is doing he isn't going to have a very successful summer against the moving ball.

Not convinced by that, its the way he has always played, he is a very good leaver too, will see

It is very hard for young players to come in at test level, look at Robson etc, when someone excels you stick with them through sticky patches, and he hasn't even had that yet

I don't think there's anyone who has looked at his normal big step backwards and thought 'that doesn't look right'. But, who can argue with sucess and we have to be honest and say that upto now success is what he has had.

The question now is, have bowlers worked out how to exploit his quirk? Perhaps they have in which case the next few matches will tell and then he's have to change part of his technique and I reckon he'll be given the chance to do that by the management but it will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I agree completely. Ballance has got a great test average and loads of credit in the bank. However even when he was scoring boatloads last summer I felt that he would either need to adapt against Australia or have a rotten summer. Be delighted to be proved wrong.

Sam Robson got a ton last summer, where is he now ;)

Good knock by Lyth all the same.

The question asked was "If Lyth fails at Headingley who should replace him." Think its safe to say he's guaranteed himself another Test at the least.

Not a dig at original poster but its insane how quickly some cricket fans would drop players, especially newer, younger ones.
