FIRST TEST: England v NZ

IMO Ali is better than Root. And I'd only look at replacing Ali if it was for a frontline spinner. If Root is our only spin option id be woried

I just don't see it mate. Cook doesn't trust him enough as a full time spinner and that's shown through this test match. If he's seen as a part time spinner, he shouldn't be in the side as Root can be a partnership breaker. His place can strengthen another part of the team.

I'm sure the data tells me I'm wrong though.

Just got in, 5 days of fantastic cricket, one of the all-time great innings yesterday by Stokes, Lords is a fantastic place to watch cricket

This England team is full of young talent, and the crowd really connected with them, I never heard anyone mention a certain KP once, everyone backing the young lads on show.

Few points, we won't see Stokes for Durham again for a long time he is special, Broad was fantastic, proving a lot of people on here is worthy of his place

Cook is back to his best as a batsman but the main thing was how well he captained today, he was absolutely brilliant, bowling changes spot on brought about wickets, not relying on Anderson.
Why mention KP, mate? And why would anyone mention him at Lords?

Are you joking?

All the press has been about him and some posters on him talk about him at every opportunity instead of focusing on the talented players in the team, its embarrassing to be honest

Ignore the press. Forget other people's opinions. You've had a great time at the cricket, seen a great win, and you mention KP? Why would you think I was joking?

It was nothing to do with trust

Ali was bowling either full tosses or too short, he had to take him off, and Root got a wicket

Ali needs to sort his bowling out if he is to remain in the team, but its nothing to do with Cook, if he's bowling like that you can't bowl him.

Great test and win by England :)

Stokes has cemented his place for the whole summer. Root is brilliant, Cook back to his best batting wise and our senior bowlers coming to the boil nicely. Ali is looking better with bat but still a bit iffy with the ball.

However, there are still some concerns. Lyth only has 2 innings to cement his place for the first test against the Aussies. Bell badly needs a score as does Balance after coming good in the Windies he has gone backwards again?

Very interesting next test ahead.

Interesting, yes. From what I've seen, we will win comfortably. Not sure what weather influence will be, though!

Absolutely fantastic test match. It had everything. Lyth will be fine, and anyway we have carried players through the Ashes in the past and still won (Bell 2005, Bopara 2009, Cook 2013)

If there are no better options that Ali with the ball, then he keeps his place. How is Monty doing?

Ballance has proven himself and Bell is quality

We can't carry 3 players though which we have during this match. Bell had a stinker, no runs and 2 poor dropped catches. Lyth, as I've said before should have played at least 1 test in the Windies, he would have played all 3 for me. However, if he can't get a 50 or very close in the next test we'll have to look at Hales. Ballance is backing away too far for his trigger movement for some reason? Hopefully he can iron that out for Friday?

Agree re Lyth, but we can't change now. Bell has quality and will come good.

I note that the Sydney Morning Herald couldn't resist a dig to accompany the compliment......"Stokes scored a thrilling hundred against the country of his birth"

And so it begins....

Didn't see the verdict last night, just letting people know its on SSN 2 starting now
