FIRST TEST: England v NZ

If we bat all day tomorrow we'd be lucky to be 300 ahead. We'd have to bat into Monday and have 2 and a bit sessions to bowl them out, unlikely.

Our best chance of winning is score quickly and get bowled out after tea tomorrow with a lead of about 250. However I can't see us skittling NZ for less than that.
Correction, that's our only chance of winning. 4th innings chasing 200+ anything can happen

Lyth just doesn't look like an International Cricketer.

Feel free to bump this mind when he hits his 50th test hundred.

I called it back in Australia, said unless he sorted out being so deep he'd struggle against proper attacks.

All well and good with the piss poor sri lanka and indian attacks, and the slow wickets in the carribean where he had time to play the ball.

A bit of pace and the ball moving around and his technique is a glaring issue.

If he sorts it out he's gonna be one hell of a cricketer, we cannit knock what he's done as he played brilliantly in what he was playing against. But I said not to get carried away, johnson stuck his fingers in his ears however and any criticism to ballance was a load of shite etc.

Just to point out Jerome Taylor was bowling a lot faster consistently in the west indies, 90mph and swinging it. NZ have bowled a couple of good spells, but I thought they were poor for parts of the first day.

There seems to be the idea on here that unless you get a score every innings you are shite

how can you tell though? nicked off a couple of times it can happen, seems a bit harsh

Very harsh. He got a jaffer in his first innings and nicked off in his 2nd. It happens.

Here we go with the patronising again
I for one as you well know didn't fancy ballance this summer. I said so before windies tour and I saw nothing over there that gave me food for thought.
Like I said he could get a ton next test and bat like a dream all summer but I just don't see it I'm afraid.
You seem obsessed with quoting averages when they don't always tell the full story.

You seem obsessed with writing off players based on 2 innings. That's cricket, sometimes you get out cheaply.

I thought they lacked stamina, unsurprising with the lack of long form cricket.

I know we don't always agree, but I do echo what you are saying about the NZ bowlers on day 1. They seemed to tire mentally to me.

Gonna get some stick here, but this is how Anderson should of been bowling, he is still our best bowler and when he gets it right he is very very good, but too many times lately he wastes the new ball bowling too wide and too short.

Pitch it up like Southee does.

Anderson and Broad got stick last year at Lords for bowling too short as well.

I think Bell could have taken a little longer to have a look, but it was a great ball.

Everybody on here and a lot of the public only seem to criticise the batsmen, but to me the bowling is the big problem, we aren't bowling teams out easily or cheaply very often. I know it flattened out, but I went to the first few days, no idea how we let NZ get over 500.

Yeah not defending Bell at all, got to stick in early on, but this is top bowling and I am more frustrated with Anderson than Broad, as Anderson has just bowled shorter and shorter in recent times.

The West Indies series was perfect to have a look at a couple of new players.

England fucked around playing Trott and Jordan.

Lyth has to play the next but if he has 2 poor innings do we stick with him for the Ashes or do we go with someone else?

Lyth is a good opener, we know that don't we and we don't have an alternative that is obviously better.

Batting is a tough gig. Two mistakes or two good balls and you get two low scores and you look like a mug. Nah, I reckon you have to give him a run.

(Graham Gooch, got a pair on debut)

broad has been getting stick for bowling too short his whole career

I haven't seen alot of him to be honest so don't really know that much about him.
