cheaper direct from Amazon rather than marketplace

Don't know Nikons so can't comment on the camera.

Photos of the kids, wildlife, images of people dancing, shots in low light, everything really. Want a good all rounder

In that case, yeah I'd say it's a good all rounder. I'd invest extra money in a good large aperture prime lens. The 50mm 1.8 is a good place to start. This will be particularly useful for shots of your kids and in low light situations.

I wouldn't worry too much about flash yet. The issue with flashes is that that generally look terrible when fired from on top of the camera and moving them off camera means triggers, receivers, stands and modifiers..... That's for another day

I just bought the D3300+18-55mm kit from Digitalrev (Hong Kong import so don't get Nikon warranty but they give you one instead) for £269 delivered (£10 off through Talk Photography). Sounds a bit dodgy I know but they have a good reputation and will cover any import charges.

It is somewhat better than the D3200, and comes with the new compact version of the 18-55 instead.

Horses for courses I suppose, not everyone wants to buy in that way.

Also got the 35mm f1.8 DX lens to go with it for £109.

I wouldn't hesitate in using DrgitalRev or Panamoz. I've bought loads from them and they've been great - even when an issue did crop up.

I've used DigitalRev before, it seemed fine.
Any opinions on SLR Hut?

I know you recommended me that 35mm lens, are you pleased with it then?

May I ask why you chose the D3300? What was it's main selling point for you?

The D3300 I bought is a gift so I haven't really put it through its paces (not yet anyway). But for the money paid from Digitalrev (£370 incl kit lens and the 35mm) I didn't see anything else that could match its image quality and low light capabilities. It's also very small and light for a DSLR, which was important as it's for a young person. Also, we have a number of other Nikon lenses we can use with it (24-85, 50mm, and a 105mm manual focus lens), so it needed to be a Nikon really to make use of them, and the D3300 seemed to have the best bang for buck. The additional features of the D5xxx or D7xxx were nice to haves and didn't really improve technical quality if at all (they all have the same sensor, effectively). And the budget was £400.
