Durham vs Middlesex

I don't know if you were aû fait with the thread but at least a couple of posters claimed colly should have denied them a runner
Yes, I just read through it all. Sportsmanship doesn't necessarily mean handing the opposition every single advantage you can when it might not even have been justified under the old rule, never mind the new one. It could work the other way, it would have been sporting of them not to even ask in this case.

Cricket sportsmanship is to play fair but expect no quarter to be asked or given.

Also, you can tell you're on the cricket board when you hardly notice the phrase "aû fait" in a post. Try that in PF and you'll be crucified.

I chucked that in especially for you ;).

Disappointed you didn't just let it go lol.

Well I'd say you have the rule and it's sporting to allow the runner. This is cricket still, after all

It was the same injury, they risked him and he lasted 2 balls, thats not Durham's fault.

They really should of said no, never would of happened at international level.

Wouldn't have mattered, he was mainly scoring in boundaries ;)

Don't see the point of denying a runner, this isn't win at all costs

I know but he clearly wasn't fit, if it was just a normal injury in a game, like Finn pulling his hamstring or whatever, obviously thats fine. But they are breaching the rules of sporting behaviour themselves slightly IMO.

Meh, they thought he was fit, he wasn't

It benefits us more to have a crock playing for them for 4 days. Saying no to a runner on that basis is just churlish imo

Fair enough, agree to disagree

I'm not as riled up as I was at the time, as the fans round me said he wasn't batting, so I was celebrating them being all out!

Churlism is a big part of cricket, especially all the stories you hear about the village and league games, never mind the pros. :D

You wouldn't want me playing, I got away with an absolutely outrageous edge once (If you think Broad's was bad think again) and didn't walk, umpire totally missed it, I rightfully got a shed load of abuse, and regretted it, but we won the game

The gods decided this is why you should never play for England ;)

Right - we always go in the Allen Stand which is the Middlesex Members stand. It's got its own bar with two real ales and does any food, expensive food like. The Stewards have got to know us and we get on quite well with them all. You also have access to the upper and lower outdoor balconies, though we're quite happy watching from the inside window seats. Access is with your Durham CCC Membership Book. Dress code is smart/casual, but you must have a shirt with a collar - polo shirts are fine.

You can also get access to the MCC Members area including the Long Room - however that is a very strict dress code. Jacket, shirt, collar, trousers and proper shoes - similarly you get access using your Durham CCC Membership Book. Me cousin tried to take one of our lads in but was extremely politely declined access on the basis that the 'jacket' being worn did not pass their dress code. Of course, the advantage of being a Middlesex Member is that you'd be able to access the Members areas when we go for our Annual trip to Lord's for the Cup Final ..... unfortunately, other County Members can't access those areas on Cup final Days .......

Is that what you wanted to know? Will you be going to Arundel or the Rose Bowl?

who was the it who didn't get let in last year for wearing flip flops and had to go buy some new shoes? simon brown's lass or someone wasn't it?

Aye simon Brown's lass ....... she did canny out of being dragged along to the cricket

Me and the bairn had a great two days on the saturday and the sunday. In the middlesex Members Lounge near the entrance to Lords. Few SAFC fans in with us including Davie Dowell who came down after the S'oton game on the saturday night.

Absolutely loved it myself, nowhere better to watch cricket.

I've taken the bairn 4 times now. We try and go every year. He absolutely loves the place. When we had to leave to walk down to Marylebone we were both very disappointed to leave. Its a fabulous place and the people at Lords treat us brilliantly. couldnt ask anymore from the experience.

I now know who you are - I was one of the "few SAFC fans" who had a chat with you and the bairn.

You can't knock the Middlesex Members stewards and staff who looked after us really well. I must have done something right last year as they all remembered me!! On the first day I got one of the lads in who wasn't actually wearing a collared top. Steward had a quiet word and just told him to keep a low profile for the day but make sure he had a collar on the next day. Could quite easily have refused him entrance. A great experience and topper place to watch a game of cricket. Much better than our members area, but that's probably because of some of our members!

Take it you had a good journey back?
