Hopefully we are proved wrong, and that if he gets a game they allow him two years/30-odd innings without a ton before they drop him.

I want Hales in the side, but he has only started to show red ball form towards the end of last season and the start of this.

Did last season sometimes. I know he's playing 3 this year but he is an opener at the end of the day and has done for the majority of his career.

Apologies, just checked Cricket Archive and he opened as often as played 3-6 last year. Seems to have got most his best scores from #3 mind.

People comparing strike rates in First Class cricket.

Having a "slow" strike rate hadn't done Cook any harm.

Or is strike rate the new barometer? Like being able to bowl 90mph gets you into the England team...

Not at all but when our top 3 is identical we need something a bit different. A player who can blast the ball around relieves pressure and gets us off to a flyer. Warner does it for the Aussies Sehwag did it for the Indians.

Hales can offer this and he's backing it up with plenty of runs too.

"Fuck you SMB, I'm picking Trott"

Peter Moores

Cook's form could be key IMO, been getting better over last few tests, if they have total faith in him, I think they may go for an attacking option to partner

Another 94 for Hales today
Most runs in county cricket(division 1) since start of 2014 season
Joyce 1658
Lyth 1489
Hales 1464
Borthwick 1331
Wessels 1323
Trescothick 1267
James Taylor 1246
Lees 1229
Wright 1217

Plenty of English talent(quite a few openers too) that is just ignored there. Wessels could play for England too.

Hales has made a cracking start to the season and his strike rate would add balance our top order. Cook, Ballance and Bell can all get bogged down at times.

Moores has already said Trott will play in Barbados. Feel sorry for Lyth, he hasn't had even a sniff of a chance to grab the opener's spot. England have took the piss out of the lad

Cheers for that

It does annoy me that Borthwick is never even discussed, he plays on one of the hardest wickets too.

I'm sorry but this is complete and utter shite. A young lad on his first England tour, he should be relishing every moment, being in that environment, learning from the top players in the country and a professional environment. There are plenty of other openers who deservedly could of gone on that tour, he should be grateful he is there, and relish the experience.

If that is taking the piss then deary me

It is like Yorkshire asking for Rashid back, absolute disgrace, the lad will want to be there impressing, the counties are there to provide players for the national team, and he could still play in Barbados.

IMO Trott should have never been asked to open. He should have been on tour as cover for injuries and Ballance who's form during the winter ODI's was frankly awful. Ballance has taken Trott's spot in the team and deserves to keep it.

Trott failed twice during the first test. Got the nod again then failed once in the 2nd test on any easy pitch. 2 ducks, averaging 16 but given the nod for the 3rd test too. It's seems to me that Moores had made his mind up and nothing would sway him for giving Trott 6 innings. Load of shit if you ask me.

A lot of people would play Lyth in the next test, but to say England have took the piss out of him os laughable, sorry, its his first call up and he will be absolutely delighted to be there, as will Rashid.

'Young lad'? Lyth is 27.

He has played with some top players at Yorkshire including half the current England squad.

I am not sure what he is learning from this tour other than England is a closed shop.

Delighted to make up the numbers while Trott makes a fool of himself, playing in his (Lyth's) position.

Yeah right.

You think Adam Lyth would be rather playing for Yorkshire than in the England squad? Course he f***ing wouldn't

there a load of other openers who would equally deserve their call up the squad, he will be delighted to have been chosen.

Closed shop?

So that is Balance, Stokes, Buttler, Ali, Jordan who have all made their debuts in the last 18 months

Closed shop, aye spot on!

You don't agree with Trotts selection, we get it, but this is one player with a fantastic test record, who earned his call back up to the squad, it hasn't worked, get over it, but there is one of the most open squads for years

We had Sam Robson opening last summer, did he think it was a closed shop?

Sort it out man.
