Catts/Gomez must not play vs Saints

Mind 1 thing I would say about Cattermole is that he didn't get close to a Southampton player in the 8-0 and then in the 2-2 last season he also couldn't get close to a Southampton player. Got booked and subbed iirc

As opposed to the others who did?

I genuinely think we should be trying to get Rodwell to do Cattermole's job against them, and get Catts further up the pitch to do some pressing. Rodwell is shit at pressing, but he can sit in front of the back four. When we have Catts constantly sitting there it can invite pressure. And he also has a good eye for a pass when he gets up to the halfway line. Rodwell just doesn't look like he can create anything. It would also stop Cattermole from being so vulnerable to a yellow card. He can press higher up the pitch with Seb. I think this could work well.

I don't think we'd do that simply because we'd then lose rodwells height getting into the box from open play. He won't play anyways thankfully

I can see your logic and I would consider that also - needs must. I don't know about the less vulnerable bit. I feel he is more in control of his game when he sits deeper to be honest.

I was thinking the same like, Rodwell can do a job defensive mid and although cattermole is better in front of the back four we need to push him higher up to accommodate Rodwell, not ideal but I can't see any other options

Pants
Jones - O'Shea - Coates - Aanholt
Catts - Larsson
Gomez - Wickham - Watmore
Defoe

Christ we are low on options!

How many legs does Giacc still have? May as well throw him in.
