Running Thread 2015

My left foot - think it's just nerves mate that are made worse by lack of racing , that's how I felt at Blyth as was first race in 2 years and was starting to doubt myself . In a race scenario you will go quicker than you do when training alone , just be careful not to start too fast and blow up halfway round.
If I was doing Sland would have gladly done it alongside you to spur each other on but I'm unsure if I can now, closing date is Tuesday also .

Due to the heat last year I drank more water before the start, had to squat in the bushes at the side of the start area for a wee.

Never had to stop en route thankfully but there are toilets at a few points.

It's more a Paula Radcliffe moment I'm worried about

Was planning to get up and run this morning, but woke up in pain and felt sick, so I stayed in.

Did the park run again this morning, only managed it in about 43 mins :(. Really anxious that I'll not be up for doing the Sunderland 10k next week, physically or mentally.

You'll be fine! Just plod along at your own speed and don't care what anyone else thinks. Just doing it for yourself will be a massive boost xx

thanks @Fletch I don't lf know if its a confidence thing I just don't feel like I can go sub 40 as ive never done it before, I think a lot depends on my 1st mile as it is usually slow 7.30 and I know I need to get that to 6.30 so I can then just improve every mile for the next 5 and then I know I wont be far off, had a confidence boost last week when I did 5 miles in training at 6.26 I believe that will hit me at bang on 40mins. I have not raced for 2 year aswell apart from a few park runs and ive never really put a lot into them just used them as a quick training session, so any decent time will do me and I may get the racing bug again to try the sub 40
Do you warm up properly? If your heart rate isn't up before you start, you'll find it hard in the first mile. If I don't warm up, my heart raises to about 225 bpm in the first half mile, which is exhausting, and not healthy! You should do at least 10mins of a warm up at a slow-ish pace (8.30-9min/miles) within about 20 minutes of the race starting.

to be honest I don't really warm up correctly and may give that a try before the race

Bit of both to be honest & scared of being all alone at the back as well.
You'll be fine. It's a decent route and there'll be plenty at your pace. I'll give you a cheer as you go past, wish I was doing it.

Just unload over the Tyne Bridge, nobody will notice.;)

Number came today for Sunderland half marathon. Noticed timing chip is on the back of the number, is this a common occurrence? First one I have ever had like that but havent been in that many races with chipped timing tbh

I'm going to try and find someone to latch onto who is a little faster than me I think, sure I will be able to spot someone within the 1st mile as that's what I usually do, if I find them to slow I will just move onto the next person, I'm not wearing my watch to tell me mile times I'm just going to try and run strong and at a good pace and see were I end up time wise, if you end up doing it message me and I will meet up beforehand for a natter and a bit of a run together to spur each other on as you said, always good to run with someone who can push your limits a bit and with you already sub40 I can follow in your shadow.

Good luck to those doing the run today. My running has stopped for over a month due to a dodgy knee, target time for GNR totally out the window and not even sure if I'll be able to run at all.

Had a few of those in the last couple of years. They seem to be replacing the ones that went on your laces.

Had 5days off to rest after a niggle , trying to learn from past mistakes, slow and easy run this morning down seafront and along glass centre , nice to be back out , loads people out running probably in preparation for next Sunday .
In 2 minds whether to enter Sland 10k or just take it easy this week then pick things back up and target couple of summer races .
Good luck today dan and butcher !!

11.6 miles this morning in 1hr 40 in my final big training run before next Sunday. Aim is now to only do couple of 3-4 milers during the week to keep my legs ticking over.

Ran it last year in 1.47 but feel this year I have got a lot better training routine in. Lady year I felt like I hardly got any miles in and was staggered to find I done it in 1.47

I suppose the occasion and the adrenaline push you on on race day

Had three weeks off when my training for the half was going really well for the Sunderland half, think I would have blasted a pb but nevermind. Going to pace and support the wife next weekend and plan for the next race.
