2nd Test: Grenada

Bit of a brain fart there, had it in my head he bowled left arm

When did Rashid leave? When they flew Ali out?

Easily done marra, he's left arm bat, right hand bowl.

Didn't realise Rash has flown back. Suppose playing 1st class cricket for Yorkshire is better than carrying drinks for England the west indies.......errr hang on.

Rashid was poor against St Kitts, which is why they went with Tredwell in Antigua.

I am not a particular fan of Tredwell's but he did a decent job when he came in, and it would be harsh to drop him.

Add to which Rashid has gone home ;), so if you go two spinners - which is a cert for Grenada IMO - then Pingu plays.

Agree about Stokes.

Yep fair enough

I do like Tredwell and wanted him in the first test, just not sure the point in him and Ali.

I think England have got it spot on with their lower middle order, one of the reasons we got beat 5-0 in Australia (among other things) was that we had a long tail which just got blasted out very very quickly. Australia played better but had Haddin and their tail often made the difference.

If we can set the innings up for Stokes, Ali and Buttler to play attacking shots, it could be a great combination.

I think they are right in extending the batting order, I just think it is really really important we have the fastest bowler we can pick in Jordan's position. Jordan is getting picked because he can bowl, he can bit a bat and he is a fantastic slip catcher. We just need an out and out quick as we have enough allrounders in the side.

Also the top of the order could do with some more dynamism, as I said earlier I want Hales in there, he has carried on his county championship form from last season, and I really think he is one of those players, like Stokes, who will only get better playing test cricket. Not particularly interested if there are players with better records than him more deserving of a chance, just think this lad is a special talent and needs to be involved.

I was certain him and Lyth would be taken on this tour.

I like trott don't get me wrong but asking him to come back after his problems to play a completely different position to the one he had so much success is in just so wrong it's unbelievable it's happening. The guy is 34 tomorrow!!

We have some fantastic young batsmen who deserve a chance to show what they can do,because they are the future not trott. Even if trott manages to slot in well as opener, we'll have to change it again in a few years, when cook is struggling also it's just a complete recipe for disaster.

It's only because of Ballance their shoehorning him back in. Moores is panicking at the thought of being demolished by the aussies and is going against logical solutions to the problem.

Lyth deserves a chance and for me Hales can be our david warner/sehwag type batsmen, it would relieve the pressure on cook if there is guy at the other end seeing the shine off the new ball. Trescothick did it for Strauss.

Nor does Michael Vaughan. He was on 5Live this morning saying Rashid should play.
It was reported originally Ali would replace him. But then it transpired he was staying as the sky lot were talking about how a 17 man squad was rather big for a couple of tests.

I was certain him and Lyth would be taken on this tour.

And in terms of my first point. I expected lyth and hales to battle it out for the opening spot with cook. Not one carrying drinks and the other not even there!!!

Strauss did it for cook too. Scored at a good rate did Strauss

I get what you are saying here, agree with some of it

For me age isn't an issue, as we have plenty of young batsmen in the side, trott was a world class player and you forget he got 5 100s on the second half of last season and outperformed lyth in the lions tour

I'm not saying he should definitely be picked but I think the criticism of the decision is a bit harsh.

Because trott on form is the last thing australia want, it's why they were so delighted to relish on his downfall, because they knew what he could do

Apologies, it seems Rashid is still there as Vaughan is banging the drum for his inclusion. You'd think he played for Yorkshire or sommat.

While I probably would give him a game on this pitch, the outrage by some of his exclusion is laughable!

May as well start early

Quick turnaround here as it starts on Tuesday and then the following test in Barbados is on Friday week

What would you go with?

Cook
Trott
Ballance
Bell
Root O
Stokes O
Ali O
Buttler
Jordan O
Wood O
Anderson O

For me

Ali has to play over Tredwell and I would rest at least one of the quicks given the back to back series

Broad misses out because he is a bit of a twat

If it had been injury and he was coming back to his number 3 position I'd have nee issue whatsoever. But it's coming back from a mental issue which isn't something you just get over, he's also having to play a different position. You're right age isn't the issue it once would have been with fitness these days but realistically how many years does he have left? Will the underlying issues re-manifest?

It's a massive gamble and I'm not sure it's gonna pay off. Cue him scoring a double century in this game mind. Fwiw I'm not critcising trott(I hope he refinds his form), I'm criticising the decision as I think it's panic stations from moores, plus it's sets up our innings as 3 players who will be 30-50 SR not exactly the brand of cricket moores was promising when he came in.

I should say very samey top 3 as oppossed to knocking them as players as nothing wrong with a 50sr just need someone to play around a player like that. Were gonna be 2/3 down before we get that player.

Looks like Tredwell is injured and Ali will replace him - only expected change.

I think it could be"last chance saloon" for J.Trott.
