Running Thread 2015

Great little 5 mile session with the running club tonight in tough conditions. Dropping some extra efforts in between lamp posts has really taken it out my legs.

Times like tonight really pays running with the club. After a 12 hour shift chance nor have bothered if going out by myself but with a it being a club night you make the effort to go and end up with a good session with some good people under your belt
How often do you run Rob and how long did it take you to run the likes of 8 mile?

At least three time a week mate. Ran 8.3 mile yesterday in about 1hr 10 although it was a fairly tough route. Depending on distance I tend to run around the 5.10 to 5.40 a km pace. Done sunderland hm in 1.47 last year but now I have not long turned 40 I doubt I could beat that again ;)

Hamsterley 18 miler is the main target this year

Canny going that mate nice one. 33 here and only really started but over the moon with my 5 mile runs twice a week, i would love to build myself up to an 8 miler 3 times a week mind.

The normal distance tends to hover around the 4-6 mark tbh although going to have to step it up a touch in prep for the 18 miler

If you are doing 5 mile you could do 8 nee bother. Just need to remember to drop you pace a touch. Keep the hard work up and you will run a half marathon soon enough. I could hardly run till end of street when I started

Same here mate, i don't think ive ran since school i kid you not. I feel there is more in the engine without a doubt but the soles of my feet throb and my knees hurt, im not sure if that is down to being an amateur but i cant go on any further. Must admit i dont have the best footwear either, i may as well wear our lasses high heels.

I was out on my own tonight and it was shite . Wanted to do some intervals and at times felt like I was hardly moving forward. Rain and very strong wind, passed Aly Dixon as I was swearing my head off , Prob thought I was the local nutter.
Hate running in strong winds.

Thrall - just seen your post - get some proper running shoes , go to Northern runner or startfitness (Ncle) or sweatshop (metro Ctre) , the staff should check how you run and help you pick the right trainers

Same happened to me a couple of months ago. Gale force winds on a Saturday morning and I was nine miles into a ten mile run. I had snot blowing all over my face and was nearly in tears as I was so knackered. She still said morning to me. Felt like I had to explain myself to her on Twitter afterwards because there was nobody else out at that time and I must have looked like a proper wrong un.

Got a troublesome muscle strain around my IT band and hip flexor, not sure how bad it is. Hurts a bit when running.
Sounds like it could be piriformis, glutes not firing properly. Lots of stretching needed.

I agree with this, no way would i have went out last night on me todd, but went to Penshaw Hills with the Strollers, did 7 miles of mud and loved every minute

ive just been out and did 2.5 mile, was fine with the wind at my back, but there was a point I was going backwards when going into the wind so just decided to call it a day, aim for next month is 150 miles so I hope the wind sorts itself out.
