Minimum Unit Pricing for Alcohol

They can afford it. You are suggesting it be deliberately priced in such a way that they can't.

I said in my opening post that it'll add on at most about £2 to a multipack of Fosters, £0.80 to a multipack of Special Brew and absolutely nothing to a bottle of Blossom Hill.

Yes, it'll increase the price of a bottle of Frosty Jacks but that's because Frosty Jacks is currently priced at about 20p per unit.

Cans of carling from Morrisons
I don't have a sophisticated enough taste to tell.

I don't know what pensioners drink, but pretty much everything in the pub is already over 50p per unit anyways.

What do pensioners drink and I'll tell you if it is already over 50p per unit.

If people are that poor maybe they shouldn't be drinking in the first place? Alcohol is quite expensive given that you don't need it. If I have £30 to get me through the week, do I spend it on food or do I go out and spend two-thirds of it on drink?

Its irrelevant what they drink the point was the only people who will cut back will be those on a fixed income who drink little. So alcohol related illnesses won't decrease at all. Supermarkets will make more profit, that will be the only change.

Alcohol doesn't have to be expensive, who are you or anyone else to tell people what they spend their wages on?

He's not man, he's suggesting people spend in proportion to their income

I'd love an Aston Martin but it's evident I can't afford one. If I put all of my savings and other assets into buying a (rather old) used one and had no money left for food and a roof over my head I'd expect to be criticised for it.

That said, I'd not like to see minimum unit pricing. I'd like to see people drink less overall but people just need something else to do on a Saturday!

Disgusting habit.

How much are these people on 'fixed incomes' earning like? They seem to be spending an awful lot on alcohol or they're drinking drinks that have a very low cost per unit.

This is exactly what I'm saying.

'If people are that poor maybe they shouldn't be drinking in the first place? Alcohol is quite expensive given that you don't need it.'

You can get 4 cans for £2, it's not expensive, he is a patronising little cunnt.

I do this, I am neither poor or an alcoholic.

£2 for 4 cans of what? Where?

What do you drink that's such a little cost per unit like?

He often doesn't articulate himself well. What he appears to be suggesting is that if you're choosing between food and a £2 four pack (where can you get 4 cans for two quid - other than supermarket 2.4% cooking lager or whatever - as I'd love to know?) and you choose the beer, it's a poor choice.

I don't think he's suggesting for a moment that it isn't their choice.

Poorer people are precluded from doing many things because of pricing (some of it enforced, some of it governed by market forces). Aye it's shit but that's life.

I don't think there's a patronising bone in his body, either.

I'm awaiting this answer like because I'm going to go and get whatever it is

Agree or disagree?

50p per unit.

Wouldn't actually make drink that much more expensive, would add about £1.50 on to the price of a multipack of Fosters, about 80p on the price of a four-pack of Special Brew. A bottle of Blossom Hill is already more than 50p per unit.

However it would increase the price of Frosty Jacks from £4.50 (£3.50 on 2 for £7) to £11.25 and the price of a bottle of ASDA's own Vodka from £10.00 to about £13.00.
You crack me up :lol::lol:

Is it a differently labelled can of Carling?

No, it's nicer than carling/fosters/supermarket own brand, everyone I know who's tried it had moved onto it for drinking at home. You can get St. Etienne for about £2.70 for four which is their version of stella.

You're just arguing for the sake of it. The usual patronising clueless shite that nobody with a bit of life experience would spout.
I hope one day you are on a fixed low income and something you enjoy goes up by "only" a few quid.

Ah, the typical 'life experience' crack. What's the relevance there?

Do you think I've never been on a fixed or a low income before? Do you think I've never had to manage a budget, work when I haven't wanted to, had to pay rent, pay bills, reduce my outgoings, etc?

I'm not arguing for the sake either, you can bugger off with that.

:lol::lol:

No part of it.

Okay, you stick to your smilies since you're quite clearly incapable of coming out with anything else.
