Think it will be marshalled this year. I cheated last year. I never knew about the rules and followed a small group. Not that I was close to winning or anything.
 
So did you run on the pavement dan?

When you come up off the sand I found I had 3 choices , go left and run along the cliff edge, go straight ahead on a trail path (whicH the harriers all seemed to be doing) , but I followed a lad infront of me and went right and ran on the grass near to the pavement, at time grass was fairly short but if was long you would be knackered. No idea which is the best route to be fair but would be interested to know if I chose the wrong option , at Whitburn there were different options also! it just came across as a free for all and those who know the area had an advantage .

when you come off shields beach, the quickest way is to follow the tracks straight, there well wore tracks off all the dog walkers and bikers, that's the quickest way for that part of the course as if you go on the path along the cliffs you weave left and right were the worn tracks are just a straight line, the rest of the course I cannot remember I just followed who I thought looked the fastest infront of me

So Dan, is it best to ti on the trail path straight ahead or cut across the grass to get near the path ?! :D
 
I had something in the back of my mind about not using the pavenents, so i stopped on the grass, albeit alongside the road.
butiif the council had cut down the grass in the center of the field as they previously had, then it wouldn't have been an issue.
 
Entered. Fancied this event for years. Any tips welcome. So if "public highways" are off limits what's fair game? Beach and coastal paths? Definitely going to have to recce it beforehand like.
 
I would say cut across the grass. You could probably save 10 seconds per mile on coast path but cover more distance. All depends if grass is cut.
 
Any idea what the memento is going to be this year?
There's been some good 'uns...flasks, picnic blankets, haversacks etc.
