This season has been tough; undoubtedly.

I change my mind how I feel about Poyet almost daily, and it's undeniable that our lack of wins has been nothing short of embarrassing. However, it's very easy to notice when you aren't winning, while its a lot harder to register the idea that we aren't losing either.

Yes, we have the joint lowest win rate in the league, but we have an excellent loss record, one that puts us on par with the teams in and around 6th-10th.

Considering we spent half of the season with the likes of Jozy up front, had prolonged injuries to much of our attacking midfield (as well as signing fewer midfielders than intended), and have just missed out on many close opportunities to convert draws into wins, it becomes easy to see why we are where we are, and it becomes easier to see that, although it doesn't feel like it, we have made significant progress from last season.

What we need is a couple more attacking players to build on our solid foundation. This season was always going to be transitional, all we can hope is that the long term strategy works.

We are the hardest team to beat in the bottom half, hence we won't be relegated.

No team has ever been relegated with fewer than 15 defeats. We've been grinding out results all season, I don't see us capitulating all of a sudden.

We've also got points in more games than any other side in the bottom half, that tells you that we are tough opponents. Contrary to what you read on here, we are a difficult team to play. It might not be pretty, but it will keep us in the league.

But yeah, there'll still be people who say we are sleepwalking towards relegation and that we will never win a game again this season. This is just being defeatist.

I keep looking at it and try to generate a chuckle but it just won't come. I am a miserable bugger unlike young Peruzzi here who is a happy soul.. Far be it for me to say he is deluded.

This season, our form should be enough to keep us up. In other seasons, it wouldn't have been. We are precipitously close to relegation - if, instead of a threadbare Burnley and a shite Leicester, Boro and Derby had been in the league, we might have been in more trouble.

It wouldnt bother me so much if we were playing well and drawing and it was obvious that wins were around the corner. We typically seem to struggle to earn even a draw and thats with us setting up defensively with the sole purpose been not to lose.

Agree, the majority of our draws have come despite us playing poorly. Look at some of our recent stalemates. Swansea and Hull away, both good away points but we weren't close to winning either game. WBA, we were the better side on the day but WBA came for the draw and we were no better than OK.

QPR were very lucky to come up. There squad should have won the league but they scrapped into the play offs and were terrible in the final scoring a late winner against the run of play. Burnley and Leicester were decent teams with average players.

Hardly a surprise all 3 have struggled but I don't judge us by there poor standards. We should be far better, not just 4 points clear.

Two or three more goals to turn a few of those 14 draws into wins and we would be 8-10 points better than the bottom three after 28 games. And we'd still have more draws than anyone else. It doesn't matter what any of the teams around us may be doing or what different teams might have done or how ugly some of our games have been. All that has kept us from mid-table and safety and being "far better" by now are a couple of goals. That's it. We're going to be fine on current form and if they start going in now that Defoe is an option we'll be safe fairly soon.

We've rarely looked like turning draws into wins. Draws into losses have been more likely.

If it hadn't been for turning a draw into a win in the last minute against the mags Poyet would be gone! We're playing poorly and in deep shit.

And we HAVE to stick with it in order to see or for it to even stand a chance. If many successful businesses or sports clubs gave up at the first few hurdles they would never get to where they want to be.

We have to hold our nerve and back Gus and his management team. However, more importantly than anything, so do Ellis and Congerton.

"In deep shit" appears to be whatever position we are in at any given time to a lot of posters but at this point it is nothing of the sort.

Last year after 28 games we had just lost to Hull, Arsenal and Norwich and had drawn CP. Within that span we had lost at Wembley and been knocked out of the FA Cup by Hull. We were in 18th on GD, one point off the bottom and three points behind Palace and WBA (although we had games in hand) and we were 8pts from Hull in 12th. We went on to lose the next four PL games before turning it around away at ManC.

This year, we are four points clear, have lost the fewest games in the bottom half and are four points out of 12th.

Comparing the two, I would say that last year was clearly deep shit and this year might be stepping around shit in your good shoes.

Spot on , that win still has the boring bugger In a job

We probably won't go down this year but that's not the point, us fans don't just judge the entire season on final league position. It's been a fuckin disaster and an absolute disgrace.

Do we have a solid foundation though? Goalkeeper is fine, but we've got a 35 year old right back, a centre back pairing with a combined age of about 70 with Brown almost certainly on his way out of the club and massive question marks over Vergini, and a left back who isn't very good at the old defending there mate.

I'd say our defensive stats are somewhat misleading because we rarely try to win games, and focus on not trying to lose. It's not hard to concede fewer goals than other teams if you're more intent on stopping them from scoring than scoring yourself.

And as someone else said, we've looked far more likely to turn those draws into defeats than we have wins most of the time.
