Running Thread 2015

think I may have asked this recently, BUT... do may runners on here do squats regularly ?
Thought it may help to strengthen my legs and assist with running , had hoped to do them maybes twice a week, did 4 sets of 10 yesterday and no way can I even do a light run today, hoping that its just that my body needs to get use to them and long term benefits will outweigh etc, otherwise can't see point if its going to stop me from running for a couple of days afterwards each time ?
What weight did you squat?

wasn't heavy mate, just did 22.5kg either side on the bar, ideally want to go up to 30kg either side and stay at that , thought may compliment running but its destroyed me !, maybes shows how weak my legs still are

That's still a decent amount! Try lowering your reps

It will help massively, but if I could give one tip it is that form is everything. Stay light and keep reps high until you are not struggling, then just up it 5kg. Remember the bar weighs 20kg so if you are just starting you are lifting heavy already. Take your time and don't make the mistake I have.

The stronglifts 5x5 app would have started you off with just a 20kg bar & no plates on. Starting at that & with no additional changes to my training I started noticing leaps in my parkrun times 3 weeks in.

I've accepted that I'm no longer doing the Sunderland Half. Bit disappointed but a month out of my training schedule is too much to make up.
The 10k could be an option depending on how I feel going into April.
Might be looking for something later in the year if there's any suggestions.

Scottish Half Marathon in Edinburgh is the week after the GNR. Supposed to be flat & fast.

I was toying with idea of doing the sunderland half as want to support it if can, however apart from a weekly long slow run I'm only up to running properly (tempo pace) for 6mile at moment so doubt I could do a half marathon properly in only a few weeks time (cant even remember the sort of programme you would use for a half marathon , how far you should be running each week etc), may try for the 10k instead.
Did GNR a few year back in 1hr30 and would love to try and beat that on , however I didn't get in the gnr ballot but would like to target a half marathon later in the year - daydream has recommended the Edinburgh one, i've heard the Redcar one is meant to be canny ?

I was out 4 times a week. Couple 10ks during the week, a long run on the Saturday followed by a 4 or 5 miler on the Sunday. I was scheduled to do a 10 miler last Saturday and I was going to work on getting faster in March.
You've got 2 months so I reckon you could still do yourself justice.
My mate's using my number so I'm guaranteed a decent time.;)
Got another couple of weeks off work and had more blood tests so I'll know more then.I do an annual 10k from Embleton to Craster with the lads in memory of my mate who died. Might just focus on that as I let myself down badly last year.

Top of my right leg causing some discomfort again, though the pain in my thigh seems to have cleared up. Nice 8 miles into work this morning accelerating along the way after a day off yesterday.

Hoping the body can hold together for a good long run on Sunday, planning for 21 miles.

Been told I can start running when I like. Going to be a while until I get my strength back after losing the blood, I'm going to have to walk a few 5ks first but medically there's nowt stopping me.
Still think the half marathon is out of the question but it maybe brings the 10k into play.
Having said that, listening to the wind tonight, I'm glad I have an excuse.

19 miles today Seaham to Whitburn n back. Hard work on the way back into wind. Hopefully no reaction with chest or cold. Hour later had to take the kids to wet n wild, knackered now.

Accepted for great north run, doh! now I just need to beat my target of 1hr 50, hopefully third time lucky as missed out by a minute odd both times I've got in.

Oggy oggy oggy......
I have picked up my running again and trying to get seriously back into it. Had a good week (relatively to some on here...!) and have done 13.8 miles in total over 3 runs - all comfortably sub 8 min miles which I am happy with. Have felt extra motivated and coincidently (must have known subliminally?) I just checked my credit card statement this morning and had a charge by Greatrun.org :) totally missed the email confirming it then I notice the folk on this thread saying they got in!

Will be first time for me mind, never got in before so now the motivation has increased again...!

Has the sunderland half route been changed again ? Saw it advertised this morning as being a "flatter and faster" route ?
No running for me, had niggly pains last couple days which have pissed me off and too many beers last night have ruined me

Coincidently on there now, this is the route:
(Apologies for anyone on their phones or anything, it's a big image!)

Same route as last year, not that flat but would like to break 1.40 on this course as I just missed out last year. Running through Hendonia is class like
