@Joe Public Excellent progress mate.

Do you think its ok? Was hoping to get my weight down to about 13 stone as I'm doing it primarily to be able to run faster, but struggling to get any lower than 13 stone 10.

I'm learning as I go though, total lifestyle change for me but it no longer feels like something Im doing in the short term, I feel like it's a longer term thing and I'm enjoying eating what I'm eating.

@Joe Public Excellent progress mate.

Have I posted pics before? Can't remember

I know I've posted a few client ones.

I believe so. You cut and pasted a yellow smiley face over your actual face.

Either way, you've posted videos where your face is visible and training partners have used your name like.

Don't laugh!

Top is on 20th January

Bottom is 3rd March,

Exactly 6 weeks between. Weight isn't down much but a slight improvement in posture. Yes, it appears I'm lopsided!

You've clearly made some good progress there then!

But I'm afraid your arm band tattoo is a disgrace!

Fuck knows, can't remember

Aye, doesn't bother me to be fair. Plenty on here know who I am, but if I've covered my face it's likely because I look like an ugly fucker at the best of times, nevermind on progress pictures

I worked out who you were when looking at the results of a meet you happened to be at - saw a lifter in your class whose lifts matched what you said you'd done

A later video with a training partner shouting your name confirmed it.

I was disgraceful at that competition and don't wish to mention it further

That's more than half the battle IMO - keep going.

Will try & get it sorted tonight - can see main differential in middle pic IMO. What's your aim?

Aim was to get to 13st from 14 St 2, to be able to run the GNR in 1:45, which would be a massive achievement since I only managed 2:12 last year. To improve my core strength as I felt weak, and to be fitter and healthier so I can be more active with the kids who kick the living shit out of me most of the time.

He did it with his phone so I was facing he same direction on both photos. I knew someone would mention that!

Just had 3 really good posters put together by @BlackOps

One is Dwayne Johnson doing cable pulls with a quote across, the other is Arnie infront of a crowd with "Trust Yourself" across the image and the third is Arnie again on a weighted row with his 6 rules of success.
All printable at good quality on A2 size.

If anyone wants a view / them sending PM me your e-mail.

2 more questions if that's ok.

I don't know the differing effects of carbs, protein etc in diet (I see a lot on here about people looking to achieve different balances) but if you have a calorie deficit will you lose weight regardless of the proportional make up of your diet? For example if you ate 1,000 calories a day of just pasta would you lose weight in the same way as you would eating 1,000 calories a day of cake or 1,000 calories of something protein heavy? I know there are other health implications of doing this.

Secondly, how effective is yoga for burning calories. It's the only exercise my other half does and she's adamant it's a good calorie burner, is she right?

Edit: Sorry, I'm going to slip in a supplementary third question in there. I've just read an article, is this statement taken from it correct?
''To effectively lose weight, you must burn more calories than you eat. The American Heart Association suggests that a healthy rate of weight loss is 1 pound per week, which most people can accomplish by burning off 500 more calories than they eat daily.''
A calorie deficit of 500 per day to lose just one pound a week?!

yes, in essence calorie intake dictates your weight, macro split dictates your shape.

Better than sitting on your arse but can't imagine its as good as HIIT rowing for example. I used to use yoga as a warm up and warm down for muay thai.

yer, 1 lb of fat is around 3500 calories. 3500 divided by days in the weeks (7) = 500 calories a day.
ahhh balls that up didn't I

She is absolutely wrong. A 45 minute yoga session will be no more intense than a slow walk lasting the same length of time.

....
A calorie deficit of 500 per day to lose just one pound a week?!

It's not too much and I've been doing it since January.

Look at it this way: Basic metabolic rate = e.g. 1700 cals per day. That's what you need to perform normal tasks if I understand it. From the article that @oROSSo posted:

Think of BMR as the amount of calories you would need to consume daily to maintain your body if you were comatose.

Most people other than bed-ridden statues will burn calories by doing 'stuff', for me the TDEE is about 2100 cals as I go to the gym, walk to work, run a bit, even sitting at a desk or eating or standing still will consume something.

So the 500 cals is subtracted from the average of what you would normally be doing through your lifestyle so 2100 - 500 = 1600 which is roughly BMR anyway.

I might have got this completely wrong but I ate 1600 cals for about 4 weeks and lost about 1.5 lb a week so I upped it to 1700 cals and the weight loss has slowed a bit.

It's not an exact science as normal people will usually vary their activities and what they do in a day. I've found it quite easy to plan 4 meals today with a total of 1700 cals.
