Calories - surprisingly high meals

I was making the point that a fish lot absolutely can be the right portion size for one person if that particular person has an extremely high calorie requirement. Competitive rowers will go through two Big Mac meals as a snack and think nothing of it, as an example.

Sir Chris Hoy was wolfing down upwards of 11,000kcal a day during his comeptitive career.

In the 50s and 60s most blokes had heavy duty jobs so didn't have to ponse about in a gym or worry about protein macros and shakes and stuff.

@redgauntlet is telling us how it was mate.

Not sure if it was how i was brought up but i point blank refuse to leave food, even if am canny full.

I look at an incompleted meal as a failure and a waste on my part.

this was the same for me, the biggest difference to my diet when losing weight was that when I was full I stopped... I soon realized that I could eat much less then I thought I needed.

Your stomach/appetite soon adjusts to smaller portions like.

I eat till am stuffed on occasion so have to balance it out with exercise and meagre portions at other times. The problem is i just love eating so so much.

same

I still maintain that it was binge eating to cope with Sunderland's season last year that ruined me though

It would be a lot easier if you're one of these people who don't like to eat!

Never trust a person who doesn't love food mate.

Lad next to me at work eats purely for energy and sustenance. Not bothered about taste or owt.

Eating is one of lifes' little pleasures imo.

Definitely, I have the belly to prove it.

I haven't ever had to diet but if I did, I would find it very hard. Portions today are just too big for any one person to eat. Fish and chips I can split three ways and have enough, a Chinese (rarely) We split two way but could easily make it three. I stop eating when I've had enough. I've had about three MacDonald's in my life. It all helps, but I don't think about it.

Fish and chips three ways? I'm not sure I could even split fish and chip AND a chinese three ways...

Obviously not bad at all, until you have the sides.

I always get corn on the cob and spicy rice if I go there. It's not the greatest but its still eating out without being too unhealthy.

I've been strict recently but next sunday I'm giving myself my first proper treat and going out for something to eat. Think we'll just head to Nandos, at least I can eat and enjoy it without thinking ive overdone it.

I don't go to nandos as it's piss simple to make (arguably better) stuff at home in minutes.

I wonder what Nandos is like, calorie wise. Afterall it's just grilled chicken, low fat marinade.

I always assumed that it was ok since so many footballers apparently go there.

I think that's somewhat exagerrated. Most olympic athletes talk of eating about 6,000-7,000 calories per day. Steve Redgrave spoke of his problems while competing since he needed 6,000 a day, but when he was diagnosed with diabetes he had a hellish time getting enough.

I know Michael Phelps claimed to eat some ludicrous amount, but nobody really verified whether he was being serious or not about it.

Maybe Phelps just had "the munchies" at the time...

Think Phelps said himself that the reported 12,000 was a myth and claimed it would be impossible for him to manage mind.

I think you're talking extreme extremes there, how many Chris Hoys are there around, remeber you questioned what I said, I know because I lived through it. You don't even know that you don't know. Patronising my backside. Grease nipple.

If you can eat a portion of the fish and chips, or takeaways that we are served, you are eating too much. That is your affair. the problem is that larger portions are insidious, you soon get used to them and before you know where you are you are obese. All my life, I have eaten until I feel full, that's enough for me, I don't need anymore and that's it. I am not asking anyone else to do the same, but if you want to lose weight or avoid the misery of diets then I have proved over a long eriod of time that my way has worked. I'm not sitting here with a big belly asking someone else to do what I couldn't do myself with ease. My waist is the same as it was when I was in my twenties and only a couple of inches more than in my teens and I wasn't a beer swilling, glutton then either. Do what you all like, I can say that my way works and it's no sacrifice.

I was joking like. Or at least half joking, if presented with fish and chips plus a chinese I probably would eat the lot, but at no point would I think it was particularly good for me...
