Running Thread 2015

Lovely bloke opposite me on the ward seems to have been a decent runner in his day. 71 year old and he was gutted that heart problems etc have stopped him running.

I'm home now but doubt I'll be doing my planned 10 miler in the morning.;)
I'll find out more next week but I think the half marathon might still be on the cards. Might have to be realistic about my time though.

Where do most of you folk log your run?

Is there some sort of Smb group anywhere?

I usually run around the outskirts of Hartlepool but occasionally if someone is heading out of town I'll get a lift to the required distance out & run back into town.

Just realised I totally misread that but too late to edit.

Garmin connect but I've also started syncing it with Strava since Parkrun teamed up with them.

Trail Outlaws recce of Pieces of 8 @ Penshaw 10k route is 8am tomorrow.........Meet at bottom of the steps at Penshaw.....Dont be put off thinking everybody will be speed merchants, its a recce, nice jog out around the course although you will still be spitting your lungs on the steps and a couple of the hills

Is there a benefit to syncing it with Strava too?

It depends on the person I suppose. Strava seems to seamlessly sync with quite a lot of other sites where Garmin Connect doesn't. I used to be in groups on MapMyRun & TheRunningBug & had to enter everything manually twice or do export/import of data which was a bit of a pain in the arse. I replaced MapMyRun with Strava & now I just do 1 sync with Strava & it syncs with everything else.

Seems fair. I've just signed up as I've nowt better to do!

I use a garmin which I link up to strava to log my runs. Paid about £80 for my watch and iirc was the cheapest one available at the time. Great watch, slight downside is sometimes can take a few minutes to pick up a signal but guess thats down to where I live

I use the strava app on my phone sometimes but found it a bit unreliable tbh, run with some lads on a club night same speed all the way round and then when we all log our runs on mine will come out 30secs a km or so slower

Forerunner 10? Mine takes a good 5 mins to get signal inside the house. Have to start it off looking for a signal before I get changed and stretch.

Mine's a Forerunner 10 & if I try & set it off searching for a signal before I get outside sometimes it won't pick up a signal at all even if I get outside before it's finished. Never takes more than 90 secs if I start it off outside though so I just put up with standing about like a lemon.

Will have a look mate , cheers

DIY Fartlek this morn , just a 6mile steady run with about ten 2minute efforts thrown in , unsure if I'm doing it right but was better than nowt . Hangover free so wanted to get out . Nice morning for running .

Edit... Good luck to anyone running at alnwick
I hated it. Magic rat had a decent run

Thanks dan. Atleast that's XC done for another season. . delights of villa at home for the last one.

I do this too. . watch on the top of my car and swing my arms round a bit :)
Fuck, might put myself through the pain of xc instead of watching that drivel!

I told a lie, magic rat had a class run. Never realised he ran from the fast pack.

Think my running days are done. Two years of battling knee pain in both legs…atrhritis it seems. Don't blame the running, mind. Kept me sane for most of my life. Just age finally catching up.

Can still work out OK on the treadmill with a max incline and a very fast walk but as soon as i even try to jog the knees give out.

Been a good run - so to speak - all these years. Some great races along the way
